What game?

So, I understand that not everyone is into sports. And I accept that - really, I do. And I understand hometown loyalty better than almost anyone. (Why else would I root for the Browns, year after year?)

But around here, people take that loyalty to a new extreme. There are four network TV shows dedicated to the Packers. We're not talking about shows on the NFL Network or Sunday Ticket channels. Plain, old, ordinary, not-broadcast-in-HD TV. And, I thought, moving here, that we'd encounter some Big Ten fans - or at least college football fans. Not so much. Around here, it's the Green Bay Packers or nothing. Example: We bumped into a new friend at church on Sunday, who wanted to know why we missed a party Saturday night. I told her that we stayed home to watch the football game (Penn St. vs. OSU), and she honestly had no idea that a football game had happened.

There are other teams/sports out there... but you wouldn't know it from where I'm sitting. It makes me want to root for the Bears, just out of spite. Wink

re: What game?

I'm still surprised how few people knew the Red Sox were in the World Series again, or that the World Series was even going on.  It's not just football  - although it seems that's all anyone from Ohio, where I'm also from, knows.  I watched the OSU game, so I knew...but I have to admit I'm not an Ohio State fan (sorry if that's just the worst thing you've ever read)

re: What game?

We ran into the same problem - no one was aware that the MLB playoffs were happening, so I'm guessing that they weren't aware of the WS either. (Of course, we were extra-interested this year b/c of the Tribe, but doesn't everyone know that October is WS time?)

re: What game?

Hahaha I just saw the first paragraph and while I clicked on it, I silently prayed, "Please don't let it be about the Packers." Please do root for the Bears. They need all the help they can get. But be aware that there are bands dedicated to singing songs about the Packers, and against their rivals, such as, "The Bears Still Suck." Something just isn't quite right in the water there! But Wisconsinites can be pretty friendly even if you don't like God's favorite football team. I hope you like living there.

re: What game?

We like Wisconsin a lot so far... and aside from the crazy Packer-love, all of the people we've met so far have been really nice! I suppose I can handle it, as long as they can tolerate my love for the Browns!
