So, I understand that not everyone is into sports. And I accept that - really, I do. And I understand hometown loyalty better than almost anyone. (Why else would I root for the Browns, year after year?)
But around here, people take that loyalty to a new extreme. There are four network TV shows dedicated to the Packers. We're not talking about shows on the NFL Network or Sunday Ticket channels. Plain, old, ordinary, not-broadcast-in-HD TV. And, I thought, moving here, that we'd encounter some Big Ten fans - or at least college football fans. Not so much. Around here, it's the Green Bay Packers or nothing. Example: We bumped into a new friend at church on Sunday, who wanted to know why we missed a party Saturday night. I told her that we stayed home to watch the football game (Penn St. vs. OSU), and she honestly had no idea that a football game had happened.
There are other teams/sports out there... but you wouldn't know it from where I'm sitting. It makes me want to root for the Bears, just out of spite.
