Home again, home again!

After a crazy, whirl-wind tour of Ohio, 3 days of semi-relaxing in New York, and a 9+ hour drive, we are back in Wisconsin. It was nice to see everyone, but I am so glad to be back to "us." We realized that we'll have to revamp how we handle future visits. We're both trying to be as fair as possible to all sides of the family, which means we were changing where we stayed every other night. It was so exhausting. On the plus side, we had a great time hanging out with and catching up with our friends. Is it bad that I don't care about going back to see family anytime soon?

One of the highlights from our trip was going to the Browns game. It was great to be there to close out the season, and, despite the fact that we're not in the playoffs, I am so proud of those guys! They finished 10-6, a huge improvement over last year's 4-12. And we saw Brady Quinn's NFL debut. I'm not convinced he's worth what we gave up to get him, but it's nice to know that we have some strength in the QB position. And resigning Jamal Lewis is a MUST for the off-season. He's a beast, charging through those lines. My final NFL thought: Yay for Josh Cribbs. I saw him as a QB in college, and now he's our Pro-Bowl bound special teamer. How great for him!

Now, I've just got to get motivated for today. I have all of our unpacking to do, plus laundry and grocery shopping. Ugh. I suppose that means I should stop catching up on all of the blogs and Internet junk that I missed for a week and a half and get things done.

My brother was at that Browns game as well.  He was so sad when TN won.  I felt really bad for him because he so had his hopes up this year.

Don't feel bad about wanting to be just "us" for a while. My husband and I didn't even see anyone for Christmas this year because last year was too crazy with trying to visit EVERYONE. We did the same thing you did - two days at mom's, two days at dad's, two days with his 'rents, it was awful! Then you don't really get a meaningful, relaxing visit with anyone. This year we decided to avoid the whole situation. It was nice to get some things done at home for once. And our parents were totally understanding. The only person who had a problem was my grandma, but she's coming to see us this weekend. Our sisters were especially understanding. Plus, all our friends who have been married for a while say you need to stay away from family for a while to establish your relationship together before throwing more people into the mixture. They didn't necessarily mean avoid the holidays, but that's what it took for us to get any "us" time at all this year.

Yeah, this year it just worked out that we were alone as a couple at Christmas.   We went home (which is a long trip from Switzerland) at Thanksgiving and tried to see quite a few people, which was exhausting.   My parents understood and treated us to a night at a spa which was fabulous.   It's nice to have parents who understand when you need coupling time.

That's a great idea, staying home for the holidays rather than jumping around! And that's so great that your parents understand the need for "us" time! Ours aren't too bad, but I still don't think they get it, especially since it's not a situation that they've ever had to deal with before!
