House Fever!

I've got it bad. We're both tired of renting, and our game plan is to buy a house around the same time our lease expires. Since we'd have to let our landlord know that we're leaving at the end of April (if we're leaving in June), we thought it'd be a good idea to start looking now. Last week, I went to the library and checked out four books on buying a home: Home Buying for Dummies, Buying and Selling a Home, Home Buyer's Checklist, and 100 Questions Every First-Time Home Buyer Should Ask. And I've been checking out listings online - and getting way too excited.

Here's the problem - I'm still jobless. That translates to me being bored and ready for new projects. Which means that I'm even excited about fixer-uppers. Major fixer-uppers. Things that I wouldn't consider if I was employed. (After all, who wants to work a full day, and then come home and work on their house all night? Not me, and I'm sure that Andy doesn't either.)

So, do you have any tips for cooling the housing fever? Or any tips for first time home buying?

re: House Fever!

I did a ton of research too.  I was online what seemed like all day looking at new house listings.  In all honesty, you not working is a huge benefit to you.  You will see new house listings and be able to visit the houses before most, who are still working until about 5.  It was a really long and draining process when we bought a house, but I'm so glad we did.  Good luck.
