Whoa, where did that come from?

Today started out like any other Friday (or any day of the week, for that matter) - I grabbed a bowl of cereal, the crossword puzzle and the computer, plunked myself down in front of the Today Show and started checking my e-mail, reading blogs and looking for jobs.
Then, I got a phone call out of the blue from someone from our church. He owns a company that sells/distributes door hardware, and the marketing assistant just quit. He'd heard (through our small group leader) that I was looking for a job, and he wanted to talk to me about it. I ended up going in for an interview this afternoon, talked to the owner (Jim) and the marketing guy (Eric), and they offered me the job!
Crazy stuff. After months of looking and getting nowhere, this pops up. It's not exactly what I was looking for, but it looks like it could be a good opportunity to learn some new stuff. Before, I did a lot of writing and pitching/media relations. This position would be mostly graphic design, which is a little out of my comfort zone, but definitely a skill I've wanted to develop. It'd be nice to add some design pieces to my portfolio, and it looks like it could grow into some writing over time as well.
The biggest downside is the fact that it's a huge pay cut from what I last made. But, let's face it, I'm not bringing in any cash sitting at home watching Meredith and Natalie fawn all over the New Kids on the Block reunion tour. And it'd be nice to close the gap on the resume; nine months is a long time to be without a job. (And it's not like there's anything else promising on the horizon...) Plus it seems like a great environment to work in - it has that small company, "family" feel. And if I'm going to be honing new skills, I think it'd be nicer to do that in a friendly place, rather than an agency.
Overall, it seems like the timing and the place is what God's had in mind for me. I think I'm going to call on Monday and accept the job - which means I'd start on Tuesday! Yikes! Back to the working world!
