We are two very different people...

...and our differences never come out quite as strongly as when we're working on projects together. (If you needed an example for "opposites attract," look no further.) Andy and I have different ways of going about things, and we are starting to drive each other nuts with our various projects.

We have 3 things that we really want to get done before we move into the new house - paint the master bedroom, refinish the living room floor, and refinish/paint the kitchen cabinets. Just about everything else can be done little by little once we're moved in (and after his parents come to visit at the end of the month... again!). So tonight, we go to Home Depot and buy the paint for the bedroom and the ladder that Andy's been wanting. (I didn't think the ladder needed to be bought right away... which probably added to my frustration.) We also wanted to check into renting a sander for the weekend so Andy could take advantage of the long weekend and get the floor done. Turns out this particular Home Depot doesn't rent tools. No big deal; there's a small hardware store just around the block from our place, and we know that they do. But Andy doesn't want to go there; he'd rather just take the ladder back to the apartment and check out the gutters. He'll go tomorrow night, he says. And I'm thinking... great, so he'll be no help with the painting then, if he's running errands all night. Things just snowballed like that all evening. In all fairness, I'm sure that I am just as aggravating to him right now as he is to me. Here's hoping that tomorrow goes smoother!

Thank goodness we only have 3 projects - can you imagine if we'd bought a real fixer-upper?

re: We are two very different people...

Brian and I are SO like this. I have to bother Brian to do things (that I cannot do) and then he gets them half done and stops. examples: Our living room is in the process of being painted (and has been for 2 months....yes 2 months!) the ceilings are vaulted and i cannot reach them to trim but he can. (plus he doesn't want me on a ladder b/c I'm clumsy) so I painted all the walls to my level and my brother in law did above me while Brian was supposed to be trimming the ceiling. He kept finind other things to do. And also he was supposed to build a stacked rock wall (like 3-4 inches tall) around all our flower beds...one has been 80% done for 6 months now... UGH we argue so much when it comes to home improvement things ....or maybe I should say Uff da!

Hope the homeimprovement projects get easier!!!

Mark and I are the same way too!  We just don't see eye to eye on home improvement projects!  Our communication skills are not at their best during these times either and we assume alot of things when we shouldn't and then the arguments ensue.  It's definitely a weakness in our relationship that we are strongly working on!

Good luck with everything!

Is every marriage like this?  Matt and I have trouble staying on the same page when it comes to projects.  I cannot imagine the bickering when we actually get our house.

re: We are two very different people...

nothing brings out more frustration between us than home projects. I bought this awesome light fixture to put in the basement kitchen months ago, and he just got to putting it up this past weekend. however, he has had all this time to work on his workbench project. Uggh. Some things aren't worth. Seems like when i finally leave him alone, he does the project I have been prodding about.

re: We are two very different people...

yeah, lucky to have only three projects! we had to repaint our whole house, and i still have to finish the hallway, and we've been living here a month! we wanted to refinish the floors, and change the carpet since it's an ugly color, but it was too much to do and too expensive at the time. so good luck getting stuff done this weekend! :)

I'm so glad it's not just us! Mandy - hopefully you won't have too many squabbles about projects, since you can pick out exactly what you want beforehand!
