A is for Apple...

And boy, do we have apples here! We went picking this morning and came home with 105 pounds of apples. I'm excited, because it only cost us $53 for all of them - it'd be two to three times that much if I'd gotten them from the store. So now, I'm in the middle of cranking out some saucy goodness. Andy came in from the garage while I was in the middle of straining/pureeing the sauce and declared it "magical." I've never seen anyone who loves applesauce as much as he does. (Good thing too, since we'll have a lot of it...)

I'm hoping that in the next week or so, we can pick up a second freezer so I can freeze the next batch of sauce. There's nothing better than "fresh," homemade applesauce year round.

We're having dinner tonight with some friends, and applesauce is our contribution to the meal. Yum!

OMG. Yum. I was wanting to can apple pie filling, but I haven't gotten any apples yet. If we can find a deal like that, I'll have pie filling for YEARS! lol Have fun!

that's so cool. btw, you inspired me to make apple crisp! we went to an orchard (didn't pick our own, but got some bags). i've always liked apple crisp but never made it myself. it turned out pretty good! applesauce is prolly too complicated for me. :) but enjoy!

Applesauce is actually easier than you'd expect - if you don't have a strainer, you just peel and core the apples, cook them down in a saucepan with a little water, smash them up with a potato masher, and add sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, etc. to taste!
