I need new friends.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the friends I've made here in Wisconsin. Most of them are from our small group at church. There are eight other couples in our group, and it's been great having people our age to hang out with (especially since we left all of our friends and family back in Ohio).

But, I just found out that ANOTHER couple in our group is pregnant. (Well, I guess I should say that she's pregnant. He's obviously NOT popping out a kid in 6 months.) Seriously people, what's in the water? That means that out of the other eight couples, only three other ones aren't either pregnant or chasing rug-rats all day. And one of those couples without kids will be moving away soon. Sad

I'm happy for all of my friends that are excited about new baby stuff, but I'm really starting to feel outnumbered. (And, to be honest, I'm starting to feel a little bored. I can be interested in what color you're painting the nursery, and what names you've picked out, but I do not need to hear about all the weird things your body is doing, thank you very much.)

So, where do I find new friends? Unfortunately, I don't have much in common with my coworkers... maybe I should put an ad up on Facebook: "Looking for friends who won't get knocked up within a year of getting to know me. Must enjoy college football, baking, cooking, wine tasting, hiking, pottery painting, and have a good sense of humor." What do you think?

Oh, and this also means that I will have three baby showers to go to between now and May. Pregnant friends are bad for my budget!!

re: I need new friends.

I hear you!  If you lived closer to East Lansing, MI I'd say we should hang out.  I enjoy most of your hobbies and am also not planning to have a baby any time soon.  I hope you are able to find some new non-pregnant friends soon!

re: I need new friends.

I know exactly what you mean. I have two cousins that are both pregnant and another one has a one year old. I just attended one baby shower and another one is planned for February. I live in Ohio and love the Buckeyes. We like a lot of the same things. I'm not planning to have a baby ever.

One great way to connect with like minded people is to sign up for classes through the "continuing ed" program at a local community college. Taking cooking, art, or other courses that strike your interest will help you meet others with similar intersts.

Keep in touch (often) with those friends though because they will be priceless when you do decide to have a baby.  My one friend who has 3 children, she's now like my best friend because she's so helpful and knows so much, and we can totally relate.  For now, any work people who are your age and don't have children?
