I developed a rash under my wedding ring, what's up?

Nope, you’re just really clean. When you wash your hands, soap and water get caught under your band and the same goes for applying hand lotion. Then add showering and washing dishes; your ring is a resting place for all sorts of suds, which leads to irritated and red skin. It may sound harsh, but you need to stop wearing your ring for a few days so the bumps can clear and you can apply some OTC hydrocortisone cream (or just try to wear it less). Be really careful about drying under and around your ring from now on (and rinsing away all soap residues). Think about wearing gloves while you wash dishes, removing rings pre-shower and leaving them off while you sleep. Make sure to scrub the inside of the band when you clean the ring, as well as rinse off any solution with plain water before slipping it back on your finger.

re: I developed a rash under my wedding ring, what's up?

This happens to me all the time.  I think in my case it is because my wedding band has channel set diamonds that have an open back -- meaning the inside of the band is not solid all the way around.

I'm also a "ring spinner" which I'm sure causes some irritation from the friction.

Also if your rings are a little too tight it will irritate the skin as well.

Thank you for your timely advice!  I was afraid I had developed an allergy to gold (I am not much of a jewelry-wearer).  Keeping my hands suds-free is much less hassle (and costly!) than having my wedding rings recast in platinum!
