How can I minimize a scars appearance?
The absolute best way to hide these “blemishes” (basically anything from a skinned knee to a surgical scar) is to avoid sun exposure. Covering the area by wearing a hat, long pants, or using an all purpose sunscreen is key. Remember, scars are not fully healed for up to one full year from their appearance, so this extreme sun protection should be maintained for at least one year. Other ways to improve the aesthetic and overall healing of any wound are; applying silicone, massaging the scar, and applying a topical moisturizer.
And, anyone that’s prone to excessive healing like keloids and hypertrophic scars (raised scar-skin), they may benefit from topical or injectable steroids. Definitely contact your doctor before administering any kind of steroid.
