What are extractions? Are they painful?

Extractions is defined as a manual removal of blackheads and congested pores, also know as “squeezing zits.” After softening up the skin using steam and extraction creams, an esthetician will wrap his/her fingers in tissue and gently try to squeeze out the clogged pore or blackhead. It is considered an important part of a facial for those skins that need it. Thinner, more sensitive skins can feel the pinch and especially those with a lower pain tolerance. But no pain, no gain, right? If it’s getting to be too much, just tell your esthetician to go easy.

re: What are extractions? Are they painful?

I had a facial done last year and the extraction part was the worst. I wouldnt say it killed, but it didnt feel good. The ones that hurt the most were the ones around my nose, and on my chin. I didnt think my skin was even that bad (no big pimples or acne) but when you go for a facial they find things to pop that you didnt know were there!

is there an easy way (or should i say cheaper) to do the extractions at home? it is hard to get the time to go out and get a facial when the only time you have free is after the kids are in bed.

I'm a big fan or Biore pore strips....it doesn't get super deep (like uder the skin sebum masses), but what it does pull out of my pores is amazing.  I use them all over my face not just on my nose.

Tweezerman has a great item called the Skin Care Tool. It is great at removing blackheads as well as whiteheads. I've had it for 2 years now and I can't imagine going without it now.  It runs about $10 and I got mine at CVS. It's alot cheaper than spending a $100 or more on a facial. I'm sure you could get it anywhere Tweezerman products are sold.

I had a facial about 2 weeks ago and she did extractions. The pain was intense and I was left with red welts on my face from pimples/blakcheads that I didn't even know I had, however my face has never been so clear! Its worth it - if they know what they are doing.

I have a had  two facials and I don't think the extractions hurt at all.  It feels like squeezing a blemish in the mirror at home except better because your pores are opened up from the steam.

Biore pore strips can cause more breakouts from the glue left behind so I wouldn't recommend them. The extractions really aren't that bad, seriously. It's worth the mild pain for the clear skin. It's important to use an exfoliate+a medicated cleanser daily in between your facials. I am guilty of squeezing my pores in between facials, too.
