an overwhelming beginning

Patrick and I have been engaged for about 5 months (tomorrow in fact) and I think the planning has officially begun.
I'm beginning to feel that "the wedding" will be a topic of discussion for a long time. There are a few who think we are crazy because we picked a date two years out... but so far that has been a better idea than not.
One problem is that we have a little budget and no real savings for this sort of thing. Another problem is that hey! We live in NYC. (Well, in NJ, but we're getting married in Brooklyn.) This is an expensive place, no matter how you slice it. Getting good quality for smaller prices requires a lot of time, and some knowledge of where to look.
We finally went looking for places to have the wedding weekend before last and think we've picked a place. We didn't look at too many, but there really aren't too many places to look for that are near the church.
We found one place, Pochron Studios, which is a little less than a mile from the church, and about the same price as the other places for the whole weekend!! This is a HUGE bonus for us, especially considering we'll be doing a lot of things ourselves, so having the day before to decorate makes me wanna do the happy dance. (As opposed to having 8 hours total the day of to be COMPLETELY stressed out.)
Now, I am all about wanting to know what is going on, and I'm starting to get a little impatient. I know that there is only so much you can do at one time, but SURELY my hubby-to-be could pick his groomsmen already? Maybe they'd look at him funny if he asked them a year and a half in advance.
My other issue (and I'm sure that this one will be long running) is that my people... my very important people... are all so far away. Its hard to plan this without my mom being a few minutes away so we can go fabric shopping or whatever. And of course, my brother (man of honor) and Elesha (maid) are all in CO too!!!
Ah well. We're going to CO for Memorial Day. Hopefully everyone won't loose too many brain cells talking so much about the wedding.
Enough. I think I'M loosing brain cells.
