wedding dress thoughts

Well, this weekend in the midst of my moving procrastination, I sat down and actually READ the directions for my wedding dress. (I'm making it, in case you're wondering.)

Now I'm seeing that this was a VERY good idea, because I still have some fabric to buy.  I bought the majority of it (underskirt, overskirt) over memorial day with my Mom, but have been waiting for fall to get the contrast in the hopes of actually finding fall colors.

The dress has godets (these make the skirt flair) and bell sleeves. I picked rose beige satin for the underskirt and kind of a pinkish brown tulle (??) for the overskirt, which has brown piping designs with silver sequins and pink beads on it. Very pretty.

At first I was a bit shocked because even though I wasn't planning on wearing white I didn't think I'd end up with a brown overlay. (Mind you, I didn't have an exact plan when I was shopping... just the pattern and a sort of vague idea. Kind of "I'll know it when I see it.")

Now, I'm pretty happy with it (hard to tell when its just fabric... waiting to put it together before I fall in love with it) but FI is starting to make me REALLY stressed out. He wants me to keep my eyes open when I go shopping for contrast fabric for an overlay that I might like better. The thing is, I don't really want to look for something else.

He's worried that I won't be happy with what I've got, because I told him that it was darker than I was thinking. (This was a hugely stressful trip to CO in so many ways, so I was apt to say that about whatever I'd gotten.)

Anyway, back to the main point. I was thinking burgundy for the godets (triangular pieces) in the skirt (because our ppl are wearing burgundy) and it would prolly look nice (again, reserving judgement for actually seeing the fabrics).  Well, in reading the directions, I find out that that same contrast fabric goes in the sleeve to make it bell... which I'm thinking would look rather...odd?

The other thing is that I need lining. I wasn't too worried about that because lining is easy, and cheap, and I honestly figured I could get white and not worry about it. After all, who was going to see the lining besides me, my mom, and my maids? Well, turns out that the previously mentioned sleeves strike again. They are also lined and because they're sheer, I think white lining underneath will look funny.

So, I'm thinking that I might just look for maybe a chiffon to line the sleeves with... I'd like to keep the sheer look, and it will be early October (Columbus weekend) so I don't want to get too warm.

Hm... decisions decisions. So, I'm glad that I got the information that I needed, because that could have brought up quite a lot of frustration when I finally started the sucker. (Would have sucked to have to go shopping again.)

Now, any ideas on shoes?
