Well, we're finally moved... not necessarily unpacked, but moved. Honestly, the greater majority of our stuff is in... its just all that weird miscellaneous stuff that you don't really want to throw away, but you don't really wanna use every day either.
Part of my problem recently is that all of my peeps are far far away. My mom, my brother (MOH) my only bridesmaid... all of them live in CO. My mom is really great. She does such an awesome job from far away... but its just not the same. I'm beginning to wonder if I made a mistake picking the people that I did for my bridal party. That really sucks to say, but what can I when I need them to be involved, and they really aren't.
Hell, my little brother doesn't even have a phone.
I tried to go shopping today for my contrast fabric for my dress... such a horrible and intimidating experience all on my own. My first mistake was trying to go to B&J Fabrics. They freaking cater to Broadway. There was a girl in there swatching for Young Frankenstein for crying out loud. The bottom line is that they get enough Broadway and wholesale business to not really care too much about the little guy (like moi).
So, I called my mom and had a little freak out... doesn't really help that the FI is in CT for work and has been since Wednesday. He won't even get in until after midnight tomorrow night. Sometimes its nice to have the place to myself... but not for 5 nights in a row. Its starts to get really lonesome.
It just makes me really sad. All of the people that I'm not related to (or going to marry in less than a year) are far far away... all the people that I love and trust... all of my really good friends. None of them are east coast people. Hell, the closest person is in St. Louis, and that's about 18 hours drive away. (And I haven't seen her since 7th grade!!)
Bah. At any rate, my mom said wait for the contrast fabric and get my lining and my muslin fabric. (I'm not that confident in my sewing skills to just cut out the expensive stuff.) I ended up going to one of the TINY little shops on 8th avenue. They're so small that you have to walk sideways around the fabric in the shop. They're probably as big as Claire's jewelery store in the mall. (A LITTLE Claire's.) But they definitely care why you're there. For one they have to pay the rent. For two, you are in their space. Its unavoidable. So, not only did I get help, but I got 100% silk lining for $8/yard. (They normally sell it for $12. Four bucks adds up!)
So, now I can make a muslin. I still have NO idea where the hell I'm going to set up my sewing machine, and I still don't have any thread, but I'm one step closer.
Wish me luck not to implode before all of this garbage is said and done. I've already had a rather nasty run in with a completely unprofessional caterer and I'm not sure how much I can handle.
