corsets and corsets and corsets oh my

I'm sure I've mentioned before that I am making my own dress...  Since I picked the pattern I've been turning over the whole undergarment deal in my mind.  The dress isn't off-the-shoulder per se... but there's a WHOLE LOTTA SPACE without being actually off the shoulder.

Personally, I detest strapless bras.  They're never comfortable, always make me look like Madonna, and I end up hitching at them all day. (Sooooo not sexy on the wedding day.)  So, after some investigation I decided I would wear a corset.

Next downfall is that purchasing them is ridiculously expensive. (Upward from $300 for a good one.)  So, I decided I would make that too.

The first corset is finished.  Ha. That alone should set off warning bells.  I decided I'd make a Victorian style corset not really thinking that I won't be wearing a Victorian style dress.  Anyway, made it, got it tried on... and the darned thing makes my boobs look weird.  Honestly, the sillouette is perfect for a Victorian style dress... it does what its supposed to do.

Its just not... right.

So, onward to more research, and I picked another corset that I had originally dismissed because it has straps.  Well, its a "regency" corset... looking at clothing from the regency time period... well, ladies dresses look very similar to my wedding dress pattern. (Think Sense and Sensibility... or Pride and Prejudice.)  Go figure.  I guess I'll wear a regency style corset under my modernized regency style dress. :o) Duh.

Consequently, the wedding dress muslin is cut out, but not even sewn together yet.  I figure there's no point attempting to fit my dress when I'm planning on putting a corset underneath.  You never know what's going to change.

On other wedding fronts, we have yet to actually pick a caterer... and its getting really frustrating.  We have narrowed it down to two choices... and we're waiting on the numbers from the second one. The first one put us off a long time during the holidays, but it wasn't really a big deal because we were just as busy.  Now we're not, but the second caterer is (for some reason) and I'm really tired of waiting.  We've been talking about catering for MONTHS!! (Since the summer!) I'm just ready to be finished with this particular aspect, before I decide that sandwiches from Subway would be nice.

On the other hand, we have a florist (my cousin), and a baker for the cake (my aunt) and a photographer (a friend) so, we're doing pretty well.  We have details to work out, of course, but at least we know who's going to do what.

There's so much going on, and so much to think about and tell, but I think I'll leave it where it is for now.

Ta!

Wow.  You have humbled me. I thought I was going crazy with my own DIY projects.  Making my own corset would never in  a million years occur to me.  Hats off!  Good luck with that!
