the tattoo

Yep. I have a couple.  Normally, they're no big deal.  I love them.  I thought long and hard about them before I got them.

Yet, now I sort of feel like a hypocrite.  One of the two is between my shoulder blades.

It will, of course, NOT be covered by my dress.

Of course.

I haven't decided definitely whether I want to cover it up yet, but I've been researching how exactly I'd go about it.  Its surprisingly difficult to find recommendations (that don't cost a fortune) for covering my tattoo.

I mean, I won't be wearing a veil, and I plan on wearing my hair up, which basically means that everyone will be looking at my tattoo during the ceremony.  Its GREEN.

Ok. Maybe I do wanna cover it up.  I can love it and still not wanna show it for my wedding day, right?

Anyway, my darned cat stepped on the keyboard (gotta love it when they do that, right?) and ended up scrolling the page all the way down to the ads at the bottom and I see a site:

www.tattocamo.com

Quite possibly every website I ever wanted to see about tattoos... where to buy ink and needles... or where to buy stuff that fades them permanently.

I don't need a new one... nor do I want to fade it forever... but I did a search for makeup and found that Ben Nye does makeup for that.  Woo HOOO!! I've used Ben Nye makeup before (for Halloween and Ren Fest), and it works great!!  I wore a bronze color in the sun at Ren Fest all day one year and it never melted.  Of course, I still got a sunburn, but I digress.

So, it was good to find a brand that I trust and recognize.  Now, I'm wondering if I can go to the costume store on Broadway (they're open all year round) and see if they have ALL the colors.

Ben Nye is considerably less expensive than some of the other concealers I've come across, which is good.  I don't really wanna spend a lot of money on something I'd only use for the day.

Woo HOO!!

re: the tattoo

Hi !!! I am totally in your shoes!! I have a beautiful tattoo on my left shoulder and my wedding dress is strapless!! I went through the same thing .. to cover it or to  leave it alone... I have decided to cover it! Yes I love my tattoo and it has all kinds of meaning to me but I think that on my wedding day everybody's thoughts should be on how beautiful I look and not how trashy they think my tattoo is or in my grand parents case  how I could do something like that to my body ( they hate it)! I'm actually having my makeup artist cover mine she's got this crazy great concealer she's gonna use!!!! But anyways if you cover it or not is up to you .. just dont do it because someone else says you should!!! You'll be a beautiful bride either way!!

re: the tattoo

I'm growing my hair out to try to camoflauge the tats the best I can.  I have 3 on my back that show.  I'll wear my hair 1/2 up/down.  I don't mind if people catch peeks of it, I just don't want everyone's eyes glued to my tats during the ceremony.  I've heard that camo kits only barely cover, tint it, so good luck!  Make sure you practice it first!

re: the tattoo

Yeah I have one on my back too that will show with my dress.  I am not covering it.  Most of my family has seen it at the beach, etc.   But his family has not seen it.  I don't really care but I will be wearing a veil so hopefully all of the attention won't be on the tat.

re: the tattoo

Honestly, I wouldn't cover it up.  It's YOU.  That's the person that is getting married.  Though my tattoo doesn't show through my gown, if it did I wouldn't cover it.  However, it is YOUR choice and if you feel you should cover it then I suggest using the make-up.  Or go to a theatrical store to get some if you can't find it at another store.  Try it out before hand with your maid of honor (it's on your back - she needs to do it for you) and then leave it there for a day to see how well it works as you go about daily life.

By the way - I love your new profile photo oh and I LOVE Ren Faires too!!!

re: the tattoo

Hi,

I used to work in a costume shop and we sold Ben Nye makeup.  We always had brides coming in to purchase makeup to cover tattoos.  Ben Nye works very well, however it can be quite a process depending on how dark your tattoo is.  You definitely want to take the person who will be applying the makeup with you to the store.  And have the sales person apply the makeup to a small area of the tattoo to see how well it works.  They should explain the process to you and the person who will be applying it.  Generally you will have to purchase at least 4 products.  A white base, the foundation or tattoo cover (sometimes their foundations work better), a setting powder (you can use your own) and I recommend their makeup setting spray (makeup won't budge).  Good luck.  By the way I have a dancing Snoopy tattoo on my arm and I am not covering it.  After watching and helping so many brides cover theirs, I decided that my tattoo is a part of who I am.
