Ruby finally lost that little tooth tonight (the one that she has been wiggling like crazy for the last 7 days). It was the first to appear when she was a baby in February 2005 and the first to come out, exactly 5 years later. She put it in a little wooden box next to her bed with a note to the tooth fairy. Now I just need to slip in and remove it tonight.
Say, what is the going rate for a tooth these days anyway?

Ruby has a loose tooth. She is over the moon excited about it. She has shown it to everyone (and I mean EVERYONE). All the kids at the bus stop, teachers, the cashier at the grocery store... Anyway so it's only fitting that I take a photo. Right? So you all can see it too.
Oh, and the photo of her as a baby when that 1st tooth started coming in.

On Saturday we celebrated Violet's birthday with a Batman theme (her choice) and surprising her with a big girl bed. I knew she loved her old bedding so I told her I had to wash it then proceded to cut it up and make it into a full size blnket and pillow. She has been sleeping soundly on it ever since (Yippee!)

Dear Violet,
You have changed so much over the last year. You are no longer my baby, you are a big girl now. I can't believe you are 3 already. I think the only thing that hasn't changed is your easy temperament. You have your own personality now and it makes me giggle when you refuse to wear dresses and choose Batman for your birthday party theme.
You started out the year weighing 25 pounds and measuring 33 1/2 inches tall. According to all the height predictions out there, you are on course to become 5 foot 2 inches (a shorty like me).
You've learned how to ice skate, count to ten, how to play candyland, and how to finally pronounce your sister's name correctly. You are talking up a storm now and love to sing as loud as you can. "Deck the Halls with Thousands Hollys" is your favorite right now.
During the Summer we took you and Ruby to Cedar Point and you loved it. You could stay on those kiddie rides all day long if we let you. The motorcycles were your favorite but you were too short to ride them. You loved our vacation to Sesame Street Place too, but mostly because you loved swimming in the hotel pool. You are fearless in the water.
When Summer was over it was time for Ruby to start Kindergarten and you were so happy for her; until she stepped on that bus and went away. You were heartbroken and cried like you lost your best friend. You still get sad every morning when you wake up and run into her room and discover that she has already left for school.
It was during Uncle Robert and Aunt Kara's wedding that we discovered your other true love; dancing. During the whole reception all you did was dance (and boy did you have rhythm!). All we had to do was look for the circle of people to find you in the middle, dancing. Music makes you so happy.
When Halloween rolled around I wasn't surprised when you asked to be a grasshopper. You needed to be something really different, something you couldn't find at the store. You made everyone laugh when you went Trick-or-Treating and kept yelling "Ick and Treat"! You still pull the costume out of the dress up box and wear it around the house.
In November you decided that you wanted to be just like Ruby and get rid of your diapers. I was more than happy to buy the underwear you picked out (blue ones with trucks, of course). You called them your "soft panties". I was expecting a long and difficult transition but you put them on and in two months have only had a couple of accidents. I couldn't have asked for a better scenario.
For Christmas you only asked for a drum and a big girl bed (just like Ruby's). You played all day with your presents and never even mentioned that you didn't get a bed. I can't wait to wake you up tomorrow morning and let you discover that Daddy and I have transformed your room and your new bed has blue sheets (your favorite color). We are ready now to let you be a big girl, even though every time I look at you I still see my happy baby that loves to sleep.
And yes, the Batman cake will be waiting downstairs for you.
Happy Birthday Violet, we love you very much,
Love, Mommy

I promised myself that this year I would relax and enjoy Christmas and take a ton of photos without running to the computer to post them the minute I took them. The result? a nice relaxing holiday spent with many family and friends (even while recovering from the worst cold ever). Chad, Angela and Isadora even had the chance to visit us for a few days (LOVE having them here).
We had a blast on New Years, drinking sparkling grape juice (or fizzy juice as the girls called it) and counting down at the stroke of 9pm! (they'll never know).
The only thing we missed out on was visiting my Mom this Christmas because she was in ICU for the whole week and since Violet and I had a cold, we didn't dare go down there. But next weekend we will all make the trip when everyone is on the mend.
Next up? Taking down all the Christmas stuff before Violet's birthday on Thursday. :)

Well last night while getting ready for bed, Violet decided to take off her clothes by herself. She was doing pretty good until she got her pants around her ankles and wobbled a little and then fell backward on her wrist. The scream fest began. We thought for sure she had broken something so I took her to Urgent Care. She couldn't even use her left arm and kept crying that her fingers hurt. So the x-ray later proved nothing broken (thank goodness) but she still wouldn't use her arm. (even after the doctor bribed her with a popsicle). So the doctor had an idea and after much pushing, prodding, extending and rotating, Violet's elbow finally popped into place and she was much better. Whew! She finally got that popsicle and I was handed the care instructions for Nursemaid's elbow.

That's right everyone, it has been 2 weeks now since Violet has been potty trained and wearing real underwear! (she calls them her soft panties)Yippeeeeeeeeee!
Her motivation has been the Go Diego, Go potty seat and special underwear with cars and trucks on them. :)
No, I will not be posting a photo of her sitting on the potty. Although I have them for future use, like when she is a teenager and dating boys. hee hee

We took the girls out Trick or Treating last night. They had a blast. Ruby wanted to run to all of the houses and Violet was content with just one house. We compromised and came back to the house to pass out candy after about an hour. (Thanks to Slade again this year for helping us pass out candy). Violet was awesome at shouting "ICK AND TREAT" and everyone showered her with more candy just because she was so cute! Ruby was the perfect, polite angel and always said thank you (making her mama proud). After eating a ton of sugar though, Violet decided she would have a party in her crib until about midnight. Yikes! Note to self - only allow Violet to eat a couple of pieces of candy next year. (by the way, in case you couldn't guess, Ruby was an angel and Violet was a grasshopper).
