34 Weeks and my favorite quotes

I am 34 weeks today! 6 weeks until my due date, but who knows when I will go into labor, im not getting my hopes up. Aly can cook as long as she needs to. I post on The Nest Baby boards and I shake my head at some of these posts I read, such as

"OMG im 38 weeks and no signs of labor"

"Im 36 weeks and im only 1cm dilated"

"Today is my due date and no signs of labor"

And my favorite "im 38 weeks and im getting induced"

Lets talk about the first quote. 38 weeks is NORMAL to not have any signs of labor. You have an estimated 2 weeks left, and if its your 1st pregnancy you have an estimated 3 weeks left. So calm down, your baby will come :)

Second quote. I read this all the time and I want to shout "YOU STILL HAVE OVER A MONTH CALM DOWN!" 1cm is normal for 36 weeks. When I went into labor with Haley I was only 1cm, but my water had broken too. Its really ok to only be 1cm.

Third quote. I hate when when mothers get to their ESTIMATED due date and get upset because they havent went into labor. Its not like your baby has a switch inside that says "ok its my due date time to come" I really wish dr's would tell us that we go 42 weeks in a pregnancy instead of 40 then I wouldnt have to read this over and over

And my favorite. Lots of women want to be induced at 38 weeks because theres no signs of labors *sigh* I would never do an induction unless it was medicaly necessary. My dr will not even discuss an induction with me until I reach 41 weeks and 4 days. Inductions sometimes lead to c-sections, and im not a fan of a c-section. I understand we all want to meet our babies, but just be patient it will be worth the wait trust me  :)

re: 34 Weeks and my favorite quotes

My coworker said her doctor induces almost all of his patients, which really freaked out the rest of us (we didnt' let on to her).  We were talking afterwards about how that should be a red flag, and that it would scare us because babies come when they're ready . . . I am definitely with you and your doctor.

I'm totally with you.  People really need to consider what's best for the baby, not just," OMG WHERE'S MY BABY."  Getting induced at 38 weeks?  Let's not even go there.  My goodness.

re: 34 Weeks and my favorite quotes

I have so much to say in response to this post!

First of all, being induced at 38 weeks...that just pisses me off.  I understand that situations exist like preeclamsia which require immediate induction and delivery.  HOWEVER, the majority of the time, induction is done because the mom is "uncomfortable."  My cousin was induced at 38 weeks with both her pregnancies because she was tired and uncomfortable.  Duh, you're 38 weeks pregnant, it's not like you're gonna feel like running a marathon.

Secondly, yes, we should just be told pregnancy is 42 weeks.  Most people will be overdue with their first.  It's okay.  It doesn't mean your baby is necessarily "overdue" either...just that yours isn't totally ready to come out at exactly 40 weeks.

This post also hits close to home because EVERYONE is telling me that they are going to force me to be induced early due to my swelling.  I have no other symptoms of a serious condition so I'd rather just let the pregnancy run its course, but literally everyone is saying that no doctor will allow me to go 40 weeks like this.  That really makes me nervous because I do not want that at all.

Okay, I don't know much about pregnancy, but wow, people really need to calm down. The baby will come when its good and ready. I agree that unless there is a medical issue, that pregnancy should run its course.
