As we journey through our new life together as husband and wife in Christ, I'll use this space to detail some of our happenings every now and again. It'll be so neat to look back on this to see how much we have grown together!

The Peacemaker Marriage

Posted Monday, February 25, 2008 8:07 PM

We started a mini Bible-study session at church last night called "The Peacemaker Marriage."  It's about 4 weeks long, so not long at all.  It was a lot of fun!  I found that my husband and I share a lot of similarities with Pastor Roger and his wife in terms of how we are in marriage.  We kept giving each other looks when something described the other to a T.  He couldn't understand everything 100%, but he was able to even catch some of the jokes ("She's impractically romantic."  ..."He's practically unromantic!").  ^^;;  I look forward to seeing what the next few weeks have to offer.

I'm starting to take more initiative in getting involved again at the church, getting to know more people.  It's truly amazing what feeling like you can relate to others can do for you.  I signed up for a special 10-week study on Tuesday nights called "Family of Origin", which basically explores how the family you grew up in has played a part in who you are today.  I am already very highly aware of some of these points, but I think it will be really interesting to go through.  I think it has the potential to really play a big impact on our marriage, as our #1 and almost only complaint with one another regards each other's characters and the like.  We don't argue over chores, financing, romance...all of those typical things.  We just get on each other's nerves sometimes, so I think this will be good.

Immigration Update: Exactly as I had feared.  They are processing applications at a rate slower than a month's worth in a month.  As of January 15th, St. Paul was on June 27th.  As of February 15th (which they just updated today), they are only on July 19th.  July received such a HUGE surge of applications, so we know it will probably be at least another two months before we even start going through the real processing.  (We sent ours at the end of July, but the receipt date, which is what we have to go by, is August 12th.)  -.-;

Anyway, I'll have more updates later, for sure!  Back to work now.  ^^;;

re: The Peace-Maker Marriage

I am realy curious where you are going to church.  Your bible study sounds interesting, I would be interested in getting some audio cds of what the sermons are.  I am also from the Twin Cities.  Thanks!

Hey there!  We go to a church in Burnsville called Berean Baptist Church.  They do post sermons online, but since this is a special Bible study, it won't be on there.  However, if you're interested, this session will be going on for a few more Sundays.  They start at 5pm and go until around 6:15-6:30.  We just started this past Sunday, so you could totally join in!  Let me know if you need more info.  ^^;;

Is that by any chance the young adults ministry?  They advertise it at our church (hosanna).  I might have to check it out!  thanks for the info!!!  :)

re: The Peacemaker Marriage

I don't think it is.  We're doing a special set of Bible study series called "Depth Charge."  There are two sessions, the first of which has just ended and the second of which just started last Sunday.  There are a whole variety of age groups in the Peacemaker Marriage, but I have no idea about the other studies.

I looked at my little book for the group (it's free), and it's taken from A Weekend to Remember marriage conferences, so it's good stuff!  Hosanna isn't too far away from Berean, so you should totally come on Sunday nights for the next few weeks!
