As we journey through our new life together as husband and wife in Christ, I'll use this space to detail some of our happenings every now and again. It'll be so neat to look back on this to see how much we have grown together!

Yay for tax rebates!

My coworker sent me a link to find out when to expect your tax rebate to come in.  Woohoo!  If it goes off of my husband's SSN, we'll get ours May 2nd!  If not, May 9th.  I'll take it either way!

There's a little table on the righthand side that helps you figure it out.

Show me the money!

re: Yay for tax rebates!

Man, i still haven't even filed my taxes yet! I get them done for free through my SIL so i can't complain though. This year, DH is still trying to figure out whether we're claiming married or separate as we only were married for 1/4 of 2007... but i need that rebate and soon, so i guess i better get on him about that!

re: Yay for tax rebates!

We filed separately last year because it was more beneficial that way.  I always thought getting married gave you a huge tax break...boy was I wrong!  We just filed ours yesterday.

re: Yay for tax rebates!

H and I a both kind of irritated about this...  they are sending us money that will count against our refund next year (or - worst case situation, that we could end up having to pay back when tax time comes around next year..)

We are going to put it in savings, and sit on it so we will be prepared for tax time next year when our refund will be smaller, or they may even want all or part of it back...  this program seems like a shady loan  from the govt to me...  trying to get us to spend money now  and borrowing against our future....  it is a Republican plan, but it is the fiscal conservative republican in me that thinks it is a shakey plan...

It felt great to get our refund this year and to see that sitting in our savings now, but I wish the govt offered an "opt out" program for the rebate...

re: Yay for tax rebates!

Hmm, everything I've read about it says there's no paying it back and that it has nothing to do with future tax returns.  The only thing is that if they gave you less than you really should have received, you'd get the difference.  Maybe some of the details changed since going into effect, though...I'll have to read up on it more, I suppose.  We don't plan to actually go out and spend ours, either.  This is going straight to our savings.  :)

I've heard that for some, joint is the best way to file, while for others, separately is the way to go.  We just have someone do our taxes to be sure we get the biggest bang for our buck.  I think maybe we could have gotten a few more benefits by filing separately, but it wasn't much of a choice for us.  Immigration would tear us apart if we did, even if we were doing it to make more money.  ;~;  I can't wait until they don't have a hold on our lives anymore!!
