As we journey through our new life together as husband and wife in Christ, I'll use this space to detail some of our happenings every now and again. It'll be so neat to look back on this to see how much we have grown together!

In-Laws in the Hospital

Posted Monday, April 07, 2008 3:11 PM

On Friday, my husband sudden had an inclination to call his family.  He called his mother first and wondered why her voice sounded a little different, so he then called his sister.  She informed him that she was in the hospital because she had been hit by a car.  Now you don't understand...being hit by a car in Korea usually means YOU physically being hit.  She was hit by one of those motorcycle/speed bike things and had been in the hospital for about a week before we found out.

My husband proceeds to call his brother to find out why everyone was keeping him in the dark about this.  He notices his voice is a little weak and then learns that he also is in the hospital and had been for four days, though he didn't say why.  We think it's exhaustion but aren't really sure.  They didn't want to tell us because they know we can't leave the country right now and didn't want to make us worry.  I understand that, but my goodness, they should have told us.  We could have at least prayed or something!!  It seems like everyone is on the mend, though, but it really is heart-wrenching that we just can't physically be there for them right now.

Backing up to Thursday, my team here at work had an outing where we went rock climbing!  It was a lot of fun, and I am totally going to take my husband sometime.  I climbed three times and made it up once, so that was good enough for me.  It takes a lot out of you!  It was crazy, though, because when I made it to the top (finally), I freaked out and wouldn't let go.  I just couldn't let myself start dropping, so I wound up climbing down at least halfway.  It was so much fun, though.

Right before bed Thursday night, I started coughing a little, but didn't think too much of it.  I was stuffed up on Friday at work, and by the time I got home, I was just feeling super groggy.  It's really similar to the summer and winter flus I usually catch, but it's spring and still snowing here.  When I woke up on Saturday, I started feeling it in my chest more.  And blah blah blah.  I was sick all weekend.  The cold aspect has nearly run its course, but I really felt the chest stuffiness on the bus ride in.  My eyes are still bothering me by watering up and burning a little, so that's really nice when you have to work on a computer all day.  And no, it's definitely not allergies.  Anyway, I hope I get well soon.  :(

I'll post more soon, but that's all I could fit in during the last bit of my break here.

re: In-Laws in the Hospital

I hope your in-laws get out of the hospital soon.  I can't believe they didn't call you, even if you are in another country!

Never been rock climbing, although I've hiked large mountains in Colorado and can relate to that sense of accomplishment at reaching the top.

Man, the inclination to call.  It is funny how people can sense these things.  Hopefully everyone will be fine.  Man, my work outing, Friday was bowling, I wish we would have had something like rock climbing, that sounds like fun.

At least you guys get work outings, rock climbing sounds like it was fun! I'd love to do that, although everyone would see how out of shape I am...

And I can't believe your MIL got hit by a car! Hopefully she recovers ok... funny, my husband was just asking me if i'd ever want to go to Korea to see where I came from, should i be worried about getting hit by cars? LOL!

Hope your feeling better from your cold soon! Lots of vitamins and sleep!

Wow, I hope your family gets better soon.  Not like you want to be worring about someone when you're that far away, and in another country too.

And rock climbing for a work outing is pretty cool, mine usually involve mango margarritas and mexican food :)

re: In-Laws in the Hospital

Hope everyone is alright.  I can understand not wanting to worry anyone, but as serious as car accidents can be, I'm sorry they didn't inform your H.

Off subject - I think I noticed your bio for the first time today - beautiful weddings.  I bet having the Korean wedding was very interesting.  I love being a part of various cultural traditions.
