Unsubscribing to the Thanksgiving Holiday!

Posted Tuesday, November 13, 2007 9:39 AM

This year, DH and I have decided not to fall into the holiday stress and family argument of "you spent more time with her family than ours, yada yada", so we are simply "unsubscribing" to this holiday!  Big Smile

The term must be credited to a friend of ours who took his wife on a trip a couple of years ago, just the two of them, avoiding Christmas with both sides of their families.  Our friend and his wife decided that they did not want to fall into the holiday rut of pleasing everyone else but themselves and wanted to avoid the commercialism of Christmas- thus the term "unsubscribe" was invented and thus the act of "unsubscribing" to the holidays was born.

DH and I plan on spending Thanksgiving alone, just the two of us snuggled on the couch in our lounge gear with about 20 different rental movies and a lot of junk food.  We have already put in an order with my mom for stuffing and any leftovers she'd like to send up or way after Thanksgiving is over, so I'm not worried that we wont share a turkey meal, it just wont be on the actual day of Thanksgiving.  DH and I definitely plan on giving thanks for all we have and for our family and friends, we just wont be saying it in our "Thanksgiving outfit" around a large table with crazy family members; it'll be said between the two of us in our simple home on our simple, uncomplicated Thanksgiving day.  :)

I am very much looking forward to our first Thanksgiving together, I'm thankful we get to spend it the way we want to, I have a suspicion it will be very memorable!

That would be nice for a holiday here or there, but I have to admit, I do love the crazy families and awesome food!  I'd be sad missing out on it too often.  I hope you two have an awesome day together!  Laying around in PJs sounds awesome.

Thanks ladies! Edmo- I think this might be the only year we can realistically get away with it.  There is some truth in your statement about crazy family members and their magnetism, I know we'll get our fair share for Christmas.  :)
