Preacher Joel Osteen - says wives should shop at Victoria's Secret

Preacher Joel Osteen - says wives should shop at Victoria's Secret.  Now, I don't have a problem with that - I love lingerie and sexy nighties just like most every girl.  But I do have some commentary of my own.

#1 - If I was a stay at home wife/mom, I'd be in comfy clothing all day and get the housework, errands, spending time with family, etc. out of the way and would probably be more inclined to "entertain" my husband behind closed doors just like a Victoria's Secret Angel model.  However, I work all day in professional clothes and when I finally get home to face the chaos of kids and housework and so on, I want to kick of my heels and hose and skirt and bra - the first thing I grab is fleece pants and a tee or sweatshirt!  Then by the time bed time comes around, I'm so exhausted...I'd just rather be comfortable in my fleece.  I'm not saying I NEVER intend to wear anything different, just that it calls for having the sort of day where you can do that sort of thing on occasion.

#2 Why does the responsibility fall to the woman?  Why doesn't he recommend that men go to Calvin Klein or the gym - or make the bed and light candles?

Larry King: Is this -- is this true, that you once exhorted women in the audience to shop at Victoria's Secret to help their marriage?

J. OSTEEN: Oh, well, that was -- that's probably true. I think the whole
...

KING: That's why you're smiling all the time.

J. OSTEEN: OK. OK. I hope it was in a good context, though. I mean, I wasn't -- it's too much to explain now, but yes I did.

V. OSTEEN: Yes, he was encouraging women. He was encouraging women to take careful [care of?] themselves.

J. OSTEEN: Yes.

V. OSTEEN: And to not go around in their old, you know, bathrobes, and that they could add that spark to their home. And I think that was great.

KING: What's wrong with that?

J. OSTEEN: No, there's nothing. And that was my point, don't go look good and dress up to go to work and dress up to go to event[s?] for everybody else. Dress up for your own husband. I mean, look good at home.

There are a ton of really religious men that I know that actually feel it's the woman's "responsibility" to look good for her man.  Interesting.  I always want to look good, as much for myself as for my husband, but heck yeah his tush better be going to the gym as well to look darn good for me too.

What I appreciate is that since he is a prominent figure in Christianity right now, he's helping others to see that Christians aren't just people with boring sex lives and who have such repressed sexuality.  While he does sort of miss on the fact that women do have their desires, too (not to say he doesn't realize that, but that he did, in essence sort of single out women having to do such-and-such), I am thankful that he is showing that Christian couples like to have some fun, too!  ^.~

As a Christian, that transcript is embarrassing. Way to miss the point. Way to take attention away from what it's about. There's never been any doubt of Christians having bad sex lives....Catholics, Mormons, etc. I just don't like someone using their position of spiritual learning to play the role that is perfectly filled by Cosmo magazine and Dr.Ruth. Obviously both partners should make efforts to not only look sexy to but feel sexy and make the other feel that way. I just thing the pulpit-panty-talk isn't the best route.

About DANGERUSS & MITTENS

My husband calls me Mittens. I adore my husband, girls (19 & 16), our dapple doxie, Niski and spending time with family. I love the D&R board - you can usually find me there. It's a good thing I love D&R since we bought an old farmhouse last year that needs a complete cosmetic makeover. I love decorating & rearrange the furniture every time I clean. Yes, nearly once a week! I also love all things pink & girly. I'm an entrepreneur (wanna-be supermodel, actress, writer and princess - but my wanna-be status changes frequently). I love to blog. :)
