Death to Kokopelli

Posted Tuesday, May 15, 2007 11:21 AM

Chris and I are pretty sure we have pissed off the fertility gods and they will plot their revenge.  Mr. Kokopelli, perched high above our heads at the top of our large bedpost, took a fall last night during a moment of the bed a'shakin, only to crumble into a million pieces as it slammed first into the nightstand (cracking and denting a frame in the process) and then second on the floor.  Curse us for killing a symbol of the fertility deity.  I will be online today searching for a new one to replace it.

 ...Hmm, speaking of...

I do a google search of "Kokopelli Statue" - only to find that the eighth website listed is a link to my BLOG!!!  I know I don't make my blog private, but that's because I like all nesties to be able to read it.  I did not, however, sign up for the whole googling world to be able to find my blog by entering just two words I used in a blog once!  I write about trying to have a baby, but none of my friends or family even knows I'm off birth control, and I want to keep it that way.  I just assumed that my blog was open to view by anyone who has a freaking Nest account, but not by just anyone.  So to test it, I took the statement "Chris's cousin's new baby" from a blog of mine a few days ago and put it in a google search, and guess what, it pulled up that blog I wrote!!!!  I can't believe this.  I post photos that I know some people wouldn't want just anyone to be able to see, like my friend's baby and such.  This is just appalling to me.  Did you know that anyone could just google your username (like mine, edmo's blog) and will get links to all your blog postings?  Can't we keep what goes on in the Nest to stay within the Nest?????

Crap.  I never woul d have guessed that non-nesties would/could look at our blogs.  I'm with you on this.  If I had wanted a truly public blog I would have started one on blogger or some other site.

I didn't realize that either. My blog is mostly to update our friends and family (and nest girls). I put a lot of photos in mine. hmmmmmm, maybe it's time to become more private.

I think the general idea is that anything on the net is possibly "up for grabs."  I keep the super-secret stuff in my personal (paper) journal.  Wouldn't it be weird for your boss to be like, "Hey there, edmo, I heard you had some great sex the other night."  (BARF!)

::cracking up::  Poor Kokopelli!  I hope you find a replacement.

And ditto on this public Nest business...  They only let members comment; surely they could only let members read...

re: Death to Kokopelli

You can try to have your blog url removed from google. Google is a great marketing tool so I dont think that they will make it so robots cant spider the site.

here is the link: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/topic.py?topic=8459

The Golden Rule of the Internet: If you want something to be private don't put it on the internet. The internet is forever.
