Revisiting the old me

I used to be really into fitness.  I worked out a lot, not because I was super self-conscious about my body (I actually like having curves, and I mean it when I say that), but because I really like sweating and going through a specific routine.  I feel really good afterward, and I love the way my face looks when it's all red and glowing.  But I started slacking off around the beginning of May.  I photographed two weddings back to back, and I had to spend every day after work (my full-time job) color-correcting images, ordering prints, putting together albums, yada yada yada.  When I finally got done with that, Chris really needed my help in the basement so I was down there every day.  Now it's summer so wedding season is in full bloom, I'm photographing games for the local minor league baseball team, and I am just plain busy organizing our house.

But it's time to get back into it.  I thought I'd lost the love of it until my friend Dawn and I went for a walk last night.  It was a great, long, energetic walk around my neighborhood, and I felt so good afterward.  I think the bug is back and biting again.  So I plan to get back to the gym and really feel great again.  I already started cutting out sweets a few weeks ago (because it was a real problem for me, actually replacing meals with ice cream and baked goods) and am eating a lot more fruit and veggies.  I am looking forward to getting my muscle back.  It's amazing how long it takes to gain that muscle, yet how quickly it goes away!  Not fair at all.

I did the same thing recenty - recommitting myself to going to the gym on a regular basis.  And you're right, it's so much easier to lose the muscle than it is to gain it back.  Start slowly - and schedule in the gym on your calendar.  I'm aiming for three days a week, then hopefully four on average.  I even took my gym clothes with me on a business trip last week.  Now if I can just stay away from chocolate....

I think it's wonderful that you are going to start going back to the gym. Isn't it hard being married, renovating the house and fitting the gym in? I know you can do it though and plus you always have that friend to go walking with and that is a really good thing if all else fails.

re: Revisiting the old me

I am in the same place. DH told me that he thought I should exercise more (for health reasons! and because I hadn' t been running more than once a week for over 2 weeks). I was initially completely offended but then realized that DH loves me and wants the best for me. Plus, exercise is a good thing. I am now exercising and strength training 3-4 times a week, watching what I eat (after the wedding, almost all my motivation for avoiding sweets went out the window), and I feel great!! Good luck to all you ladies with your efforts to be healthier and happier!

I have just made a huge decision to get back into shape.  I have gained 20 pounds since the wedding...however, I have learned to cook like a pro!  However, It's time to get my Diva bady back...wish me luck and thanks for the motivation

re: Revisiting the old me

I agree! I was big into lifting weights, but with wedding planning and the big day coming up close, I couldn't fit in but a day or two here and there. I ALWAYS do my cardio. I'm a self-described addict to it. It relieves stress and motivates me. I don't like working out inside which is why I have a hard time with gym motivation. Sweating mats, dirty weights, stale air.....doesn't exactly motivate me. Good luck to both of us I guess!
