working for a buck

Work sucks.  Who ever decided the work week should include 40 hours?  I say full time should be 4 days a week for 7 hours at a time.  How's that sound?

Decisions have been made regarding my future employment.  I called the job I really wanted and they weren't ready to hire.  They told me to go ahead and take the other job I was being offered.  They couldn't guarantee me anything.  So I took the other job.  It is not at all what I want to be doing with my life, but they offered me $5,000 more per year, so it's a nice start!  And hey, it beats unemployment.

(of course, this job is more responsibility and steady work, so unfortunately that means less Nest time)

re: working for a buck

I hear ya.  I would LOVE a 4 day work week.  I just work so I can enjoy my life outside of work to the fullest.  I love to travel, so I need a job that pays me well enough and gives me enough time off so I can enjoy a few trips a year.  Nothing over the top, but reasonable vacations.

Hang in there!

Less Nest time??!! That's a deal breaker! LOL Kidding. At least you'll be making a little more dough. And yes, the 40-hour work week is pretty lame. Employers have to understand that a happy employee is a well-paid, well-rested employee. ;)

That sucks that your new job isn't exactly what you want.  But you can always keep your eyes out for your dream job.  I hope another opportunity will arise soon.

re: working for a buck

I totally know what you mean re a 40 hr week.  I think we should all have 3 day weekends at all times.  I actually but a proposal to my boss whereby I work 4 days a week and take a 20% pay cut (because, let's face it, who does any work on Fridays?) and he was a bit surprised but then thought about it and realised it really would work.  Unfortunately, the 'powers that be' couldn't think outside the square and totally dismissed the idea because why would anyone want to work fewer hours when they didn't have children to take care of?  Answer: to have fun, enjoy life, broaden my horizons/hobbies/skills and be a contented and loyal employee!!!  And, less than a year later, I'm off to a different job, which I wouldn't have even considered if my firm had actually thought a little creatively.

Anyway, best of luck for the dream job that at least you know you want (trust me, that's half the battle) and which will surely be just around the corner if you just keep your eye out.
