Worst Bloodwork Experience Ever!

I hate having my blood drawn. I am anemic and if I don't eat right beforehand, I get dizzy and sometimes faint. Lately though, I've been really good with no problems. I thought I was getting used to it. Until yesterday.

I went in straight from work. I told them I hate having my blood drawn and her response..."You aren't supposed to like it."  The lady scared me right off the bat because she didn't tie that rubber band thing around my arm tightly at all. Then she tried for about 2 minutes to get blood, twisting and turning the needle inside my arm, but nothing was coming out. She said my blood was being stubborn! Um, how about you did a crappy job putting the needle in my arm.

So she moves over to the next arm, and it actually HURT when she stuck the needle in. What, was she some kind of newbie at this? As she's digging around inside that arm, I get woosy, sweaty, and can't see anymore. That's when I slid back in the chair and told her to stop right then. She gave me a minute to cool down with a wet rag when suddenly the urge to poop rushed over me. I had to run to the bathroom, still practically unable to see and my finger tips were so tingly that I barely got my pants off. What was that about? I didn't see that coming at all.

Finally another lady took over, got the blood from my body, and I went home. They actually let me leave the office and drive home right after all of that!

So I don't think I'll make a good pregnant person if I couldn't even handle that!

That stinks.  All I can say is at least it's over!  Those evil people are exactly the reason I hate needles and drawing blood.  I'll suck it up when I get pregnant, but if it's not necessary, I won't do it.

Ouch! That doesnt sound like fun at all! I hate needles for that exact reason right there. When I was in middle school I went to the doc with strep, and I was given two options a shot in my butt or a shot in my leg and I opted for the shot in my leg.  Well for about 3 days I could barely walk b/c my leg was so sore from all the proding that chick did. That woman scared me for life, now I hate anything to do with needles. Even the site of them makes me cringe.

Vampires!  Your poor arms are going to be bruised.  I don't know anyone who likes needles, but a monster phlebotomist is the worst! Next time - ask them to use the pediatric/butterfly ... it's much smaller and I always request it!  I can never give blood either because I get dizzy/etc. too.

re: Worst Bloodwork Experience Ever!

Your nurse would think I'm weird.  I have no problems whatsoever with blood being drawn, so much so that I donate blood and am one of those people who likes to watch the needles go in my arm.  I'm not a druggie or anything, & it's not like I get off on it, but I guess I just have great veins and have been poked so much in my life it doesn't bother me - unless I get the one stupid nurse in the office who can't see that huge blue pulsing vein right there in front of her.  Sorry it's not fun for you.  Just remind the kid of this whenver you're ticked off at something s/he did :p
