Is that the baby moving?

Posted Wednesday, February 27, 2008 11:09 AM

I've been needing something, anything, to make me more attached to this pregnancy.  I do love that I'm going to have a baby, but I guess I'm super in the minority that pregnancy is just not fun for me (so far) and I am not really getting into it the way I should be.  So I've been really focusing on feelings inside my belly to see if I can feel anything that might resemble the baby moving.  I'm 16 weeks now so I figured it could happen any time.

Well, I think it might have happened last night...to Family Guy no less.  Yup, the show Family Guy will forever be branded in my memory of the first time I felt my baby move.  Lucky me.  Anyway, I walked into the living room and Chris had the show on.  I suddenly felt something odd and just stopped walking, trying to focus on what in the heck that was.  It felt like something kinda rubbing/scratching the inside of my stomach.  Maybe almost like I was super hungry and my stomach was growling, but without the growling and only with that turning/gurgling feeling that goes along with it.

I told Chris to mute the TV and then I focused.  It stopped.  So I told him nevermind and he could turn the TV back up.  As soon as he did, the feelings came back.  Dear lord, I can't handle a child that loves a show like Family Guy at such a young age!  So I'm not sure if that's what it was, but I'm hoping so because that was the first time I think I really felt proud of being pregnant.

Oh, WOW - how cool- I cannot wait to have that feeling - I hate Family Guy to and DH always watches it.

lol!  Hopefully, he/she was trying to say, "Turn that off, I'm trying to sleep here!"

Awwww Congrats!!  Are you going to find out the sex?  Because I'm sure that will be very exciting since you can go shopping and decorate the nursery accordingly

If I were you, I would channel surf for another show to get the baby excited about.  Family guy is over-rated, but I do have to say, this is the only positive thing I've ever heard associated with the show :)

Aw...I hope it's just the turning point you need to get you excited!  I hope your baby doesn't relate to Stewie!  (Not a Family Guy fan, but DH and girls somewhat are...so I've seen an episode or two.)

The first movements for me always felt like muscle twinges. How exciting for you! Just wait until you can actually identify body parts. How fun.

re: Is that the baby moving?

I rememberthe first time Katherine moved in me---it felt weird at first. It took me a while to "feel pregnant". I think when you feel more vigorous activity and your belly swells more and you look pregnant instead of just fat, it will help you feel more attached. At least it did for me. Finding out the sex helped, so I could picture the baby and refer to her as "Katherine" and not "the baby" and use "she" instead of "it". Good luck!
