Glucose Test - eh, not so bad after all

Posted Thursday, May 08, 2008 2:44 PM

I totally expected the worst and it wasn't bad at all!

The drink was super sugary, but it still tasted just like a Sunkist.  Just sweeter.  Unfortunately I wasn't allowed any water at all after drinking it, so the sugary after taste was more annoying than anything.

I thought I'd get the shakes or feel nauseous having not eaten anything in 10 hours and then drinking 50mg of pure sucrose, but I was fine.  I even survived the blood draw and I HATE having my blood drawn.

All is good until they call me with those results.  I just feel like why wouldn't I have gestational diabetes?  I feel like I've gotten everything else, what's one more thing?

my sister had that...totalyl had to change her diet. While all her pregnant friends were gaining weight my sister was losing, because she was FINALLY eating healthy...it was good for her...helped her stay healthier. Also she got to get an ultrasound like every two weeks...she liked that b/c she got to see Madalyn grow inside her more than other mommy's. But those pluses are not worth the risk... I'm sure you don't have it. you seem to be pretty fit and healthy and most of the time fit, healthy people don't get it. but I'm like you....what else can i get? b/c if they invent an illness..I'll get it!!!

I don't think you will have it, you can worry, but I will think positive for you, you have suffered the symptoms enough.  And I think your pregnancy is really starting to look up.  You have the cute Boli nickname, you have had smaller weight gains lately, and you felt kicks.  And I remember you putting in an older blog that they thought he was advanced, so you already have an advanced kid.  That is awesome.  I think everything will be fine.

Oh yeah, I should warn you first, my weight was up 6 pounds.  FREAKING YIKES!  Thank the lord my doc thinks most of it is water retention.  (She said my swelling is the worst she's seen at this point in a pregnancy)  But seriously, in two weeks....6 pounds?  I'm up to 164 from a 133 starting weight.  Holy crap.  Thirty-one pounds already?  That's what I should put on the entire pregnancy, and I have THREE MONTHS TO GO!!!!!  Seriously, I go to the gym 3 days a week...I can't be eating enough food for this kind of weight gain...who could?

FYI too, anyone can get gestational diabetes, even super tiny fit women.  It is believed that the hormones produced during pregnancy can reduce a woman's sensitivity to insulin, resulting in high blood sugar levels.  Thanks though for hoping I don't get it.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  I super love ice cream.

I hope you dont have it, especially if you like lots of sugar like I do. But the test itself is never bad. I always read about first time mothers being scared (like its life or death) about taking the test.
