Planning has been fun these past couple of days. First epics. Then last night, cake tasting. I had been looking forward to this. After seeing tons of wedding cake pictures (both local and club board are doing the cake siggy challenge this week), I had a HUGE craving for cake. We heard about Frances from fellow CFL knotties.

So we started out by creating the design. FI and I had some designs in mind. He sketched a cake for me not too long ago, and I filled in the design. I originally wanted a red ribbon encircling the middle of each tier, with the white dots above and below the ribbon. Very simple and elegant. After looking through tons of pictures and bouncing back different ideas, I think we came up with something better. While Frances was figuring out how many people we could serve with different setups, FI was sketching another cake. This one had alternating tiers. The bottom tier was square, the next circle, the next square, and the top tier circle. We loved that and it feeds about 75 so we can save the top tier and still be able to have cake for everyone.

As for the design, each tier will have red ribbon made of fondant around the middle. Below the ribbon, she will do a quilting effect, with silver dots at the intersection of the lines in the quilting. And of course, we'll top it off with a crystal "S" (that came in the mail on Saturday, it's gorgeous and was a good price, bought on ebay).

Frances' prices are amazing. She works from home which keeps the prices low. I didn't think I could afford to do fondant, but with Frances, it was doable. It's gonna be so beautiful. We estimated that the cake would be about $150 more if we went with other bakers.

So another check off our list of to'do's. Now it's time to work on a florist. That is the last vendor to book. YAY!
