What's Going On

Posted Friday, March 30, 2007 2:09 AM

Hi Bostonian Nesties!

So, here are some fun things coming up in the next couple of days, let me know if you end up checking any of these events out!

- Friday, March 30
Hey Let's Go is having a party at Lir with lots of fun people and light appetizers. You can RSVP @ www.heyletsgo.com. The fun starts at 6pm.

Things To Do is having a party @ Vox for young proffessionals. Come to the spring kick-off from 6pm-8pm.

- Saturday, March 31
We're going to a friend's party - the 8th Grade Party - where everyone must come dressed as they were in the 8th grade. And everyone had to email the hosts 3 songs that were hits when they were in 8th grade. It should be a really fun time, as my SO and I will be dressed as we were in the 80's, while other friends of ours who are going were in 8th grade in the 50's. And then there's everything in-between...

We'll be leaving the party early, though, to attend the Artists' Ball at the Cyclorama. This event supports arts and the community. And its a great opportunity to don that extra special dress you have hanging in the closet...

Other things going on Saturday - Brix (wine shop in the South End) is having a Spanish wine tasting from 3pm-5pm. And Saks on Boylston Street is have a Diane Von Furstenberg spring '07 fashion show @ their Pret-A-Party from 2pm-4pm. Check it out!

And for next week...
- Thursday, April 5 - check out the Beachwear Party @ Wish with fun summer music, cocktails, and lots of new beachwear to try on.

- Friday, April 6 - come to SOWA First Fridays. Check out new art, mingle with the locals and have a glass of wine. A must-do for all Bostonians, at least once. So if you miss this one, don't worry, its the first friday of each month.

Hope you're all having a great spring!

Finally!

Posted Tuesday, March 27, 2007 2:29 PM

Sorry about not posting earlier, its been a crazy spring here in Boston, as all of you know. So here's a little bit about what I've been up to in March:

- Dinner at Cuchi Cuchi with friends. This eclectic, funky restaurant in Cambridge is a great place to go if you're looking for something a little out of the ordinary. The glamorous staff gets dolled up in retro-outfits and the 40 foot-long bar is a great place to people watch. International cuisine and an unusual atmosphere makes this the place to go for a funky night out.

- Legal Seafoods in the theatre district is updating there downstairs bar into a cool, lounge - a great space for post-dinner/theatre drinks (and they have a great bar menu too). And check out their upcoming events:

03.29.07
04.23.07

- Shecky's had another fun girl's shopping night at the Cyclorama in the South End. Free chardonnay & mixed Midori drinks and of course lots of shopping. I got a great deal on a beautiful ring for my SO (platinum with a single stone) and some sassy Rock & Republic jeans. Then post-shopping food & drinks at nearby Picco with the gals.

- Last weekend had a nice get-away with my SO and a couple friends of ours. We drove out to Great Barrington for some spa time, shopping and a great dinner at Club Helsinki. Relaxing and fun - I highly recommend it!

So I hope you've all been having a good spring - let me know about any fun, new & exciting things you've been up to!

5 Must Do's in Boston

Posted Monday, January 22, 2007 3:38 PM

1. Shop. Newbury Street is the Rodeo Drive of Boston - where you go to see and be seen. You can shop such classics as Louis Boston (with the chic L Restaurant inside) and Giorio Armani (with adjacent cafe), or head over to the new Valentino store. For the more thrifty there's the new H&M 2-level extravaganza, Juicy Couture and American Apparel. No matter where you go, you'll have lots of options for post-shopping food & drinks that span the whole of the street.

2. Walk around the Boston Common - The starting point of the Freedom Trail, the Boston Common is known to be one of the oldest public parks in the country. The park is almost 50 acres in size and is adjacent to the public garden - a botanical garden complete with flower beds and footpaths. And of course there's the English Pond where the famous swan boats offer quaint boat rides all summer long.

3. Harvard Square - if you believe in learning by osmosis, then head over to the square that is home to some of the smartest folks in the country. You can walk around the campus, shop the square then grab an irish beer at Shay's or experience the Harvard Square tradition that is the Border Cafe.

4. The Museum of Science - this place is great if you're with kids, or even if you're not. You could spend the whole day here, checking out the exhibits, going to the planetarium or catching an IMAX show. And exhibit halls are open until 9:00 pm every Friday, so you can start with a martini and an appetizer at the Science Street Café, then follow that up with an Omni film and free stargazing at the Gilliland Observatory (weather permitting). www.mos.org

5. New England Aquarium - ok, so who can resist a penguin? The Aquarium was designed with the intention of providing an underwater experience - so you walk around the darkly lit tanks with the mother of all tanks rising up through the center of the aquarium. Again, this place is great whether you're with kids or not. And if you missed the IMAX at the Museum of Science, don't worry, there's one here too. www.neaq.org

Valentine's Day in Boston

Posted Monday, January 29, 2007 9:41 AM

Boston can be a very romantic city. Here are some ideas of what to do on Valentine's day 2007:

On a budget: Perhaps the most romantic neighborhood in Boston is the North End. Stroll around Boston's own 'Little Italy' - see the Paul Revere House & the Old North Church, enjoy a romantic dinner at one of the many cozy Italian restaurants, and be sure to stop in to one of the local pastry shops (like Mike's) for some after dinner sweets.

No budget tonight: The Wine Cellar Restaurant, Boston's one and only fondue & wine Restaurant in Boston (located in the beautiful Back Bay) is hosting a Valentine's Day prix fixe dinner. Dine on escargots and rack of lamb, or try the smoked salmon medallions and cheese fondue. The dinner is $75 per person (tax & gratuity not included) with seating times at 5:30pm, 7:30pm, 10:00pm (valet parking is available). www.bostoncellar.com

Who cares if it's packed: You'll want to score reservations early if you want to spend Valentine's Day at one of the most romantic spots in Boston for dinner, The Top of the Hub. The site of many a wedding proposal, and one of Boston's finest dining destinations, the award-winning Top of the Hub features outstanding cuisine and impeccable service. Soaring 52 floors above the Back Bay, the restaurant and adjoining Skywalk Observatory offer a spectacular view of the Boston skyline from every table. www.topofthehub.net

No crowd, please: Want to avoid the crowds on Valentine's Day? Why not have a romantic lobster dinner at home - you can have a lobster dinner shipped right to your home by going to www.bostonlobsterfeast.com. The Valentine's Day special is $89.99, but you can choose from many other dinner options.

Interactive: Want to get out and dance on February 14th? Then reserve your tickets for the Valentine's Day Social Party & Dance at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Meet new friends, socialize, dance and enjoy live music in an elegant ballroom setting. This party starts at 6:30pm - and buy tickets in advance to save $10 at the door. www.bostoneventguide.com

Super romantic: Do something different this year and surprise your loved one with a super romantic evening at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Celebrate the night with live jazz, cocktails and pass hors d'oeuvres amidst the courtyard garden, filled with orchids, jasmine and tropical ferns. Tickets are $100/individual or $160/couple. www.gardnermuseum.org

It's us and some friends: For a fun-fllled night of comedy, check out Kathy Griffin at Symphony Hall on February 14th. Tickets range from $32-$42. www.bso.org

The 5 best specialized shops in Boston

Posted Sunday, March 04, 2007 8:37 PM

1. Formaggio's Kitchen - 244 Huron Avenue, Cambridge & 268 Shawmut Avenue, South End
If you're looking for a special cheese for a dinner party or just have a craving for delicious, gourmet cuisine to-go, this is the place to go. Specializing in small production artisan cheeses & charcuterie, hand-made sweets, staples for your pantry, hard-to-find spices and salts, and gifts for food lovers everywhere, Formaggio's sells packaged goods as well as homemade food, including my favorite chicken salad in Boston. And don't forget to check out the fantastic wine selection and gourmet chocolates from Italy, France, and the US. formaggio-kitchen.com

2. Brookline Booksmith - 279 Harvard St, Brookline
Whether you're looking for an award-winning, new book, or you're heading to the used book cellar, the Booksmith is a great place to browse for a great read. Fiction, non-fiction, how-to's and children's books, its all here. And if it isn't, the staff will be happy to order it for you. Plus check out the staff picks and great magazine selection. brooklinebooksmith.com

3. Abodeon - 1731 Mass. Ave., Cambridge
Abodeon combines retro-chic goods with contemporary upscale housewares. Much of the inventory consists of unused vintage goods from the 50s and 60s, such as turntables, cocktail shakers, and even an antique desk allegedly straight out of a Harvard dorm room, all of which are in excellent condition. Collectors should check this place for one-of-a-kind finds. Vintage jewelry is available, as well as modern designs from all over the world, ranging from Scandinavian ceramics to crafts made by local artisans. A fun, funky shop, a definite hidden gem worth checking out. www.abodeon.com

4. In-jean-ius - 441 Hanover Street, North End
This little boutique tucked away in the North End is THE place to go to find the perfect pair of jeans. In-jean-ius stocks many brands of jeans plus unique t-shirts, fabulous tops, and interesting accessories. And with an ever-changing assortment, you will always find something new. Plan a ladies night out here - for parties of 8 or more you can enjoy wine, cheese & desserts with your friends in a relaxing, private, shopping experience, where the store is yours. www.injeanius.com

5. Lazuli - 581 Boylston St. Suite 805, Copley Square
I just love the jewelry here. And you don't have to spend an arm & a leg to get a beautiful piece of wearable art. With great sales, you can get a gorgeous necklace for under $50. The jewerly is unique and cute, and they also have cool cufflinks and rings for men. Whenever I go out wearing something from Lazuli, I always get compliments. www.lazulijewelry.com
