My man and I met at a summer camp and have been inseperable ever since. He proposed in August of 06 and we are to be married in August of 08. I'm attempting to do this on a low budget in the most laid back way possible, but only time will tell how it really ends up.

I bought my dress!!

Posted Monday, December 17, 2007 9:19 PM

Here's the online picture of it...

It was scary, I rarely spend that kind of money and I had a sign a ton of dotted lines saying I wanted the dress.  I think the more lines I signed the more scared I was.  The dress was the first actual purchase of anything related to the wedding... scary!!  Moving forward!!

I love the dress, I'm going to have it altered some, altered to be ankle length (although I may leave it longish in the back).  It's so pretty!  Now I just have to wait for months before I see it again.

I bought a size 10... grumble grumble... I am techincally the measurements of a size 8, but both my mother and the sales lady thought a 10 was a better idea and would need less alterations (although the final decision had to be mine, and I had to certify on a dotted line it was my decision).  I'm kinda sad about that, having lost 55lbs in the last couple years, to still be a size 10 (especially with the body image issues I'd been having)... but my mom has and always will think I am fat, even if my jeans are a size 4 ("Oh, E, I fit in a size 4 now, they made pants bigger."-My mom)... I guess there's no pressure to lose weight this way... damn I hate feeling like a fat piece of meat.

I'm trying to keep my guy from seeing the dress, hopefully he'll like it on wedding day *dreamy sigh*.  So far so good, although one night we were flipping through some camera pictures on our TV and we accidentally came to one of me in a wedding dress, not "the dress" but a dress, more than I wanted him to see... eh bien, the best laid plans of mice and men, right?

re: I bought my dress!!

Hey, don't sweat the size thing.  When I tried them on they brought me every size in a size larger than I asked for.  They said all wedding dresses run a size small.  Guess we just have to suck it up, but I was glad to do it to be comfortable and not suffocating on my wedding day.

The dress is beautiful! Congratulations! Very original, thumbs up. In regards to the size thing, yeah, it's not the best thing in the world to hear when they order you like 4 sizes up, but hey look at it this way...it's always easier to take away then to add material, so this will ensure that your dress will fit amazingly come your wedding day. Congrats!

You guys are right, I need to stop sweating the small stuff, there are much more important things to put my mind to... I'm glad you like my dress :-)

Congrats on the dress purchase! I'm sweating my own dress purchase thanks to the size issue, but comfort ranks right up there with style for me :) Seems like Maggie is a popular choice..your dress is lovely!

re: I bought my dress!!

Oooh, pretty.  Very princess maiden.  Yeah, I about had a cow when I fitted for a size 10 BM dress for my sister's wedding.  I know what you tell yourself, it's just an inflated number, I'm not that big...yada yada, but it still stings.  Sigh, unfortunatley a Maggie isn't in my budget, although I've already fallen head over heels for one.  Lucky you!

My rooomate is dealing with this now as she tries on dresses. It is kind of sad that our magical day dressmakers can still make us feel bad about our weight.

re: I bought my dress!!

Formal dresses (including prom, bridesmaid, and wedding gowns) ALWAYS run small and you need to buy at least a size higher.  It doesn't mean you're fat, but let me tell you...if my dress was a size 10 I certainly wouldn't be on here complaining about it!  I'd kill to be a size 10 like the good ole days. =)
