When we finally picked our location I shared it with some co-workers, all of whose response was "Oh! That's where [another co-worker] got married!" So I talked to the co-worker, S, about her wedding (all of this was in like October) and she gave me some pointers. Today she finally remembered to bring in her wedding stuff, which she'd been promising me for months. One of the first things I found was the contact information for a rental company in the same small town near the State Park our wedding is going to be at, with REALLY reasonable prices (20x20 tent, 1 day, you set up $80)... yeah, it doesn't get much better than that. They also rent tables and chairs and if that wasn't enough, they mention on their website that you can pick up Friday and drop off Monday for a one day rate. Just what my week needed :-)
Also included in the packet of stuff were a ton of pictures, just your average disposable camera photos, but they give a really good feel for the location. Her decore was very minimalistic (it wasn't a first wedding and both she and her (now) husband are grandparents (most of the pics are of adorable kids)), so it gives a good idea of where I might want decorations where she didn't have them, very helpful. I'm super happy. Very nice of her :-)
On a "what goes on in his mind" note... I was driving to work with M today and he told me that a co-worker was talking to him about wedding planning (we recently discussed with her a trip she took to Jamacia, as that's where we'd like to honeymoon) and so I guess she was telling him more about that or something... any way, she told him that she'd had two weddings and that the first was a huge to-do that took on a life of it's own with tons of people invited, but her second it was like his parents and her parents... he told me that he had told her that we were doing all the planning early and that we were doing well not making it a huge ordeal. Then he told me that (where does he get his information??) many couples wait until the last minute to plan their weddings and they are the ones freaking out two months in advance.
Uh, babe, what planet are you on? I love you, but "planning as much as we can early" is past, we are into the "no longer early" phase... when I tried to get him to help me plan stuff in January and before, that was early... now we are in the "it's the regular time to plan a wedding" portion. Sigh, at least he sees the whole thing in a positive light, I guess...
I'd still like to get out to the State Park again to take some measurments before we reserve anything, but at least I know where we can get our stuff for a slightly less insane price (assuming they have anything available that day)... in the pics my co-worker gave me there were some shots of the tent, just a simple white tent, I'm glad it's white, it looked nice... I'd kind of been envisioning whatever tent we rent as being tan with brightly colored stripes... at least I don't have to fear that any longer!
