My man and I met at a summer camp and have been inseperable ever since. He proposed in August of 06 and we are to be married in August of 08. I'm attempting to do this on a low budget in the most laid back way possible, but only time will tell how it really ends up.

A pirate costume and the first RSVPs

Posted Monday, June 09, 2008 3:11 PM

I've received my first RSVPs... kind of exciting, but also nervewracking... what if the people who don't RSVP right away don't like the invites (or worse, us!)  Eh, I think that's probably just my imagination running way, all the feedback I've gotten so far has been positive.  My good friend in Milwaukee, who was the first to RSVP, said that the invites (specifically the poem on the invite) was very personal and obvious that I wrote it... so I guess I am worrying a little that it was too personal... Worries be gone!  (I read an article in Scientific American this weekend that said studies are finding blogging to the theraputic, to which I said... hmm... that explains a lot...)

On Friday we rented a pirate costume for M to wear.  He looked like a pirate in it, lol... it's a formal pirate outfit and I think it'll look classy with the wedding dress.  The shirt and pants are white (red overcoat), which should look pretty stunning with the white wedding dress.  We haven't told his parents yet about the pirate costume... M's sister indicated that she didn't think they'd be too happy with it... and his mom is already, uh, disgruntled because the wedding is not in a church/officiated by a priest... so I figure they'll find out soon enough... (they do know it's a pirate/princess themed wedding...)

My MOH set the dates for the shower and bachelorette party... my mom can't attend the shower, she'll be out of town... the weekend before is July 4th weekend and that seems like a bad idea and the weekend after she's out of town too and then it's the weekend before the wedding.  So my mom and I made a plan for a 2nd shower at a friend of my mother's house (she offered (for some unknown reason) to hold a shower for me...) with maybe just my mom and her friends (that have become my friends) that we are inviting (maybe 5 of them)... we should probably invite M's mom too... although just now it occured to me that my mom is inviting several friends to the wedding and M's mom isn't... not that she can't, she just didn't put any on the list.  Hmmm...

The invites caused an unintended stir... Call me naïve or whatnot, but since I didn't have all the address when it was time for the invites to go out I just sent the ones I had addresses for (most of them, only a few I didn't have)... yeah, well, I guess M's extended family started calling each other about recieving the invite, and the people they called hadn't received theirs... great... who knew they'd care enough to call each other?  Plus, both sets of parents were freaking out this weekend about "did you send an invite to so and so" well, did you a)put so and so on the guest list and b)send me so and so's address?  Then yes.  Otherwise, get me so and so's address and I'll send the invite... not a problem guys... breathe!

LOL.  My grandmother does the same thing "Uncle and Aunt So and So didn't get an STD!" Um, yeah.  I've never met these people, and you didn't put them on the list, so No, I didn't.

The pirate costume sounds awesome.  I bet it would look great.  I think you should warn the parents, though.  They can freak out in private, instead of at the wedding.  It might be kinda funny, actually.  You should put the video on youtube.
