Last day of work!

Posted Friday, August 24, 2007 1:32 PM

Today is my last day of work at my current job. I am actually a little sad about leaving. I have been trying to think back to when I first started here almost a year ago...it was such a new experience. This was my first job working in an office. While it wasn't the job of my dreams, I learned so many valuable skills that I can take with me into the workforce. It was a good first job to have.

I had a phone interview for a job out in Boulder, CO, on Wednesday, and got a second interview set up for the Tuesday after Labor Day. Hard to believe that in less than a week, DH and I will be moving away from our home state to start a completely new life in a place where the only people we know is each other! But I am getting more excited every day.

I am looking forward to living in a smaller city (Boulder is only about 100,000 including the students whereas Minneapolis is way more than that in just itself, not including suburbs or students). DH and I are also planning on going camping and hiking a lot, especially when we first get out there (because neither of us have jobs yet--although I might have one sooner than later). We're going to love living right next to the Rockies!!

This weekend, we have to start packing and repacking our stuff (most of our stuff is sitting in boxes anyway). We're also cramming our schedules full of dinner/coffee/beer dates with friends that we won't see again for who-knows-how-long. That is the only thing I'm not looking forward to--saying goodbye to all my best friends who know me so well and whom I love so much.

Wow! That's so brave of you. I'd love to hear more about this process: how'd you decide on Boulder? How are you going to make ends meet without jobs at first? Do you have leads? DH and I may move to North Carolina in a few years, and we also would only know each other there. THough we'll wait til one of us has a job b/c otherwise we'd be too nervous!

re: Last day of work!

I did the same thing - DH and I moved  across the country from New England to AZ for new jobs.  Good for you.  Boulder is a wonderful and beautiful place to be.  Lots of places to explore in the wilderness and a nice community too!  Best of luck building up your friends there.  It is taking us a while and I miss my old friends too!  But we're enjoying the sunshine.

Congrats!  I know it can be scary, but have fun.

I see from your bio that you're very active in church.  I'm sure once you and your DH find a church you like, you'll be able to make connections there and get involved.

Are you a member of a national sorority?  If so, there may be an alumnae group in Boulder.

Any hobbies? Sports?

I guess the advice I'm giving is pretty obvious, but good luck!  That's so exciting!

re: Last day of work!

My husband and I got married on the same day as you and I had lilac dresses for my bridesmaids also!  We moved to the Denver area from Texas just 2 weeks after we got married.  We absolutely love it here!  I promise that it is an easy transition!  Everyone is always active and outdoors because it is so beautiful and the weather is amazing.  If you want to, we have some friends in Boulder and I'm sure they would love to show you their churches.  Also, maybe we could meet up and double date!  We don't know too many people here yet since our familys are in TX and OH.

To be honest, the way we decided to move to Boulder was through prayer. DH had grad schools in Seattle, Minneapolis, and Boulder to choose from. Minneapolis offered him full funding plus a stipend (a great deal) and Seattle most likely would have given him funding as well. Boulder has a smaller program and less funding so we will probably have to pay the first semester or even the first year out of pocket. Boulder was the least practical option. But we both felt inexplicably drawn to Boulder, even against our common sense. We moved believing that the Lord would bless us, regardless of the financial burden or the lack of family and friends.

That would be great if your friends would be willing to let us know what are some good churches in the area! We just checked out one last Sunday and it was all elderly people. They were sweet but they're not our age! I think that it would be fun to meet up and double date too. If you are still interested, my email address is specialkkluthe@gmail.com. You can give that to your friends too, if they would email us about churches. We're thinking about attending Grace Community Church in Westminster but finding a good church with young members in Boulder would be even better!! Thanks so much.
