DH and I met in high school and we've been together since. We were married June 17, 2007. Right now we are renting and looking forward to the day when we can go house shopping. Babies are a big ? right now. Maybe in the future, maybe adopting, maybe none...We'll see. Right now we're excited for it to be just the two of us for a while

Fabulous shopping trip!

So I went out shopping tonight and spent a ridiculous amount of money but got some amazingly beautiful things!

I got a strapless red cocktail dress with a sweetheart neckline and a black satin belt from Forever 21. Then I went to DSW where I've been drooling over numerous pairs of Nina shoes for a couple years now and I bought my first pair. They're red satin pumps with beautiful ruffles on the toes. I'm so excited to wear them!

As if that weren't enough I splurged and got the brand new Victoria's Secret Miraculous Push-up bra that claims to add two cup sizes. I don't know if I believe that it brought me from a small A to a small C, but there's certainly enough padding in there to make me look like a nice full B.

The next impractical thing that I really want to buy is a set of replica Manolos that look really similar to the blue satin ones that Carrie has in the Sex and the City movie. I just found two places that are selling a Martinez Valero Zenith style for around $150 that looks nearly identical to the $945 real deal.

Check it out if you're interested...

Here's a comparison pic of the two:

For that large of a price difference, I would be totally satisfied with the "replica" version...at least for now.

Time to go back to watching Sex and the City the movie and drooling over all the glamorous fashions!

Learning something new

Posted Saturday, October 10, 2009 1:03 PM

I'm so excited for my DH.  He's been toying with the idea of leaning to play an instrument for a while, and a couple weekends ago we finally went to the music store and he rented a viola (similar to a violin, but more deep and mellow sounding).

We're looking forward to being able to do a flute or clarinet and viola classical duet at some point, but for now I'm listening to him serenade me with "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Jingle Bells."

Job advice anyone?

Posted Thursday, August 06, 2009 7:16 PM

So, I've been working at my job for almost 2 months now and I've really started to notice how outrageous the cost of gas is (and gas hasn't even been that expensive this summer...idk what I would do if it were $4/gallon again).  My commute is 62 miles each way and even though DH only has to drive about 5 miles, our total gas costs were $460 in one month!

That just seems so excessive to me.  I specifically asked to be placed at the store in the town where I live, and even if they couldn't place me there, there are 3 other stores that are half the distance I'm driving now.  I didn't get my placement info until 2 weeks before I started, so it's not like we could even have waited to get an apartment until we knew where I was going to be, and our lease goes until next summer.  Plus, we love it where we're at, and DH has a job locally, so it would be ideal if I could work locally too.

Idk what to do...the corporate office is in charge of placements...do you think it's ok for me to email one of my contacts there and ask about getting placed locally or getting some sort of reimbursement for gas costs?  Or do I just have to suck it up and keep paying for it?  Money is going to be really tight when we have to start paying $320  a month for my student loans in October, and I'm worried we won't have enough money.

Plus with the paycut DH got and the amount of unpaid time off he's being forced to take, I'm really worried.  We used up all of our savings in the months leading up to me starting my job because we had to move into our new (and more expensive) apartment early or risk there being no openings.  We ended up racking up credit card debt then too, so now I'm looking at $6,000 in credit card debt, $25,000 in student loans, two car loans totaling about $13,000, another $600 on a computer loan, and a furniture loan.

I have a couple thousand in bonds that I'm debating if I should cash and DH and I have some stock, but we don't want to touch that at this point.

I'm just really stressing right now.  Any advice would be extremely welcome!

Still alive...just really busy

Posted Monday, July 20, 2009 8:20 PM

So I've been at my job now for just over a month and there hasn't been much time for anything else.  I work 48 hours a week, and once you add in my lunch hours, it's 55 hours.  My drive is 1 hour each way, so that ends up being a grand total of 65 hours a week!

That doesn't leave much time for eating, sleeping, cleaning, and just having time for myself and to spend with DH and my friends.  So it's been a really hard adjustment.  The first couple weeks I honestly came home crying most nights and telling DH that I just couldn't do it and that it was too much.

At this point I am surviving but it really hasn't been easy.  I have 5 more months of training before I get my final placement in a store.  Hopefully it's less than a 1 hour drive!

Just wanted to say that I miss having time to read about what is going on in your lives and I hope that things are going well for you all.

Finally! Our new apartment! PIP

Posted Friday, June 05, 2009 11:15 AM

After two months, we have finally gotten things organized enough that I was able to take some pictures. So, here are the pics I've been promising you.  There are also some more on facebook.

This is the guest bedroom/guinea pig room/game room. Robert picked out this wall art because he says in a video game you are the hero of the story. : )

And of course, here's the Victoria's Secret closet that Robert painted for me.

Second anniversary gift help, please!

Posted Thursday, May 28, 2009 10:24 AM

My second anniversary is coming up on June 17th, and after looking at the traditional (cotton) and modern (china) gifts, I decided it would be fun to get matching cotton pajamas for DH and me.  We already agreed to pick out a china set together.

Problem is that I can't find any pajamas!  There was a pair from Pajamagram that I liked, but besides being too pricy, they were out of stock.  Sad

Here's the link so you can get an idea what I'm looking for:

Does anyone have an idea about where I might try looking?

TIA

Random Ramblings : )

Posted Tuesday, May 19, 2009 12:31 PM

Finally everyone else in the office just left for 3 hours of watching boring training movies on ladder safety and avoiding asbestos, so I can enjoy the peace and quiet of working alone.  Thankfully I don't have to go to the training since I will be leaving in a little over a week.

Our office has been very overcrowded lately with people who aren't normally here.  Two people in particular stand out--the first is a man who wears so much cologne that when I went into his office 2 hours after he left last night and picked up his phone, it smelled like I was holding a cologne bottle!  The other is an older lady who must have no one to talk to and mother at home because she is an incessent flow of irrelevant chatter and she babies all of us, even those people who are in their 40s.

I finally got my job placement and I will start June 15th.  The store I will be working in is an hour away, so DH and I made the inevitable decision to look for another car.

Sidenote:  I really despise car shopping.  The idea of going out and hunting for that particular car I want is exciting, but the actual practicality of dealing with slimy car salesmen who take one look at me and decide I look like an easy target for whatever lemon of a car happens to be on their lot that month is really frustrating.

The car I would really like is a 2006 or newer Hyundai Tiburon, 2 door coupe, royal blue, with a sunroof.  But unfortunately we've only been able to find it for $12,000+ and we're trying to keep it under $9000.  So it looks like we'll be testdriving a 2006 white Chevy Cobalt for $8,600 (including tax, title, etc).  At least it has a sunroof and is a coupe, so I think it might be a good compromise between my ideal car and a strictly practical car.  (We already have a 2005 Dodge Stratus, 4 door, so that's our practical car.  We both wanted our second car to be a bit more sporty.)

My little sister is graduating from HS this weekend and she's in the same class as my BF's brother, so DH, BF and I are all driving to the Upper Peninsula together on Thursday.  I'm looking forward to the Finnish food my gramma and mom have made for the party.  There's going to be mini pasties, piirakas (rye crust shaped like a flattened football filled with a creamy rice and milk mixture and topped with egg butter), and cardamon biscuit.  Delicious!!!

Soon to-be-MSU alum

Posted Thursday, May 07, 2009 12:06 PM

I know I haven't written in a long time, but that's only because the black hole of preparing for finals, doing projects, and writing papers sucked me in for 3 weeks. Now that it's spit me back out on the other side, a soon-to-be Michigan State University alum, I have a little more time (and sanity) to catch up on my blogging.

We've already been in our new apartment for exactly 1 month today and we're enjoying it so much. All of the extra space is amazing, the new furniture is beautiful, and we've been able to paint it, so it really feels like a home. I know I promised pictures, but I'm going to have to make you keep waiting just a little longer. We're going to wait to take pics until our dresser gets here tomorrow and we finish hanging a few more things on the walls.

I really can't believe that I am graduating this weekend. I have grown and changed a lot over the last four years and the person I am now as I prepare to graduate and move on with my life is different in many ways from the person who first stepped onto this campus as a freshmen. I have made friends and lost friends, re-affirmed some beliefs and questioned others, and I have had experiences and met people who have challenged me to grow not only as a student but as a person as well. I want to thank everyone who has helped to make my college experience a wonderful one that I will look back on with a smile.
