almost the end of the year...

i always feel that time is just flying by. when i reach the fall, i am still wondering where my summer went. when i reach the new year, i am still trying to figure out how it got to be december. i should totally expect it, but it always hits me like a ton of bricks.
we got home from out little trip to southern california on thursday evening. the road trip back was a little longer than usual. i guess people were traveling home, or taking their long new year's weekends up north to the bay. i had to return to work last night. and here i am this morning, like i never left! but thank goodness the hospital is slow today, and there is plenty of time to catch up on my celebrity gossip, internet surfing, and blogging!
christmas was good this year. it was nice to see everyone post-wedding. we passed around our photo albums of the wedding and honeymoon. people really enjoyed seeing the professional pics, and all our adventures in puerto vallarta. too bad the albums i ordered for both our parents didn't arrive in time for the holidays. i was bummed about that!
i got some nice stuff for christmas. i got tickets to the matchbox 20 concert in march. that was a nice surprise taped to the back of their greatest hits cd from dh. he also got us a trip to las vegas next month to see spamalot. we went to vegas for my birthday in august to see the cirque de soliel show, love. and then for his birthday in december, i took him there to see the penn and teller show. we keep saying that we want to go back again to see more shows, so i guess we are making this happen before we go away for a while. my best friend got me a slew of workout clothes, and she even called to say that she didn't mean to say that i needed to work out, but sometimes new clothes can motivate! hahaha!
the coolest thing i got was a new black hoodie that says, "the new mrs. t"...i lost my other "soon-to-be mrs. t" at the wedding and i was pretty bummed about it b/c i had gotten to wear it for a whole year before. so, i was quite surprised by that gift from mike. very sweet indeed!
i wasn't too creative this year with my gift ideas. honestly, i had no time to think about what to get people. so, a lot of relatives got a framed wedding photo, my brother got money, my sister got a dvd. dh got some travel books about germany since we are planning a trip there in july, and a video game off of his amazon wishlist. nothing too spectacular this year.
after christmas, we were brave enough to hit the mall b/c i wanted to exchange a sweater for a different size. and we checked out crate and barrell since we had a gift card from our wedding. we did end up getting some kitchen nick nacks, but nothing too exciting. oh, and i did go to best buy intending only to get my mom a new memory card for her new digital camera that my brother got my parents for christmas...and i ended up getting myself a new digi-cam too! it was on sale, for a really good price, and i just couldn't pass it up! i am not usually an impulse buyer, but really, i have been contemplating a new camera for a while now since ours is getting pretty beat up from all our trips and stuff. so, merry christmas to me.
dh always tells me that i am allowed to get myself nice things. i guess after so many years of being a student, i am still used to pinching pennies all the time. but he says i work hard, and i deserve to get things that i want. i guess that makes sense. i am just not used to buying myself fancy things that i don't really need.
anyhoo, back to work for a bit. you will probably hear from me again shortly.
