Offbeat Men Make the Bouquet Toss Fun

I've long detested the bouquet toss. It's boring not just for most singles who desperately try to avoid the hubris it suggests and for couples who've wed or don't intend to, it's archaic, it's sexist in a magical way that excludes both sexes and, oh yeah, I have no intention of carrying a bouquet.

I will have a tossing bouquet made, although possibly out of felt and vintage buttons from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=8502"> Princess Laserton at Etsy</a>, if it could have awesome results. "My REAL favorite moment was when one of my best friends beat his own girlfriend to the bouquet. This needs be blogged now so I can laugh at it instead of in my friend's face! She was blathering about how all her friends are getting married soon and how she spent the weekend in her hometown attending the wedding of her friend's older brother. That's right, this guy and gal (more likely her parents) had the money to invite not only one of his little sister's friends, not even one of her <I>best</I> friends, but also her boyfriend who she met at college and no one, including the little sis, has ever met before. I was pretty impressed, seeing plenty of Knotties unable to invite all their own friends, let alone guys they've never met, and said so. My cute little friend Ellen replies, "They've been dating for 6 years. I'm sure they were saving money for the wedding the whole time!"

Yes, Ellen. That's why they waited 6 years to get married. Not because they started dating in high school. I'm sure they were saving money all through college for a ludicrously gigantic wedding, instead of spending it on, y'know, that college thing they went to. Their parents surely did not help with any of this whatsoever.

This is the lady who made fun of the wedding industry for encouraging women to spend too much money on dresses. I can't WAIT until she gets married so I can watch her eyes bulge at the cost per plate. I'm fascinated by her because she strikes me as a real princess bride type who already has it planned, but instead she has real ideas about where the money should go instead. I love it, but I still am just irked enough at her to laugh at her expense once she sees the expense of the "traditional" wedding she so envies. Okay, so it's true: the cost of weddings has more than doubled in the last twenty years, so most of our parents' idea of traditional, and therefore many of our ideas of traditional, are less costly than big, "traditional" weddings today!

EDIT: Oh ho ho, I forgot. When she was making fun of how much women spend on the dress and ring, of course taking a holier-than-thou-art perspective (literally, she's Catholic and believes a wedding is more about uniting under God than celebrating an important lifecycle ritual with your friends, which is fair enough for her) of wanting to spend the money on a house or the honeymoon, she said, and I quote, "I'd rather just have a cheap, traditional wedding." AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA! *chokes, falls over and dies* I can't wait until she realizes how poorly those two words bordering the comma go together.

I woke up so damn weepy and I totally bawled when my buddy Eyepatch shot Captain O'Sexy, even though I was sure it was going to be in his head and it was. I love my FI so much for thinking to wake me up before it started. Geek romance is so cute.
