Like a Fish in Water

Today was Jax's first swim class. Everything went very well and he took to it after a couple minutes of uncertainty. There's only two kids in the class, Jax and a little boy is a year older. Their teachers were very impressed because there was no crying and no tantrums and both of them thoroughly enjoyed themselves in every activity.
One of their activities was to practice jumping and sliding off the side of the pool and into your arms. Jax got the idea but it's still more of a falling forward. Another activity we did was to wiggle their legs back and forth first slow, then faster and then as fast as we could. This was a big hit with both of the little boys. Jax just couldn't stop doing it no matter what. We practiced blowing bubbles in the water and then dunking them underneath for a second. No matter what we did, Jax got a huge kick out of it and was giggling the entire time. We were having so much fun that it didn't even feel like half an hour had gone by. It felt more like 10 minutes. So I'm thrilled that Jax had a great time and that we'll be doing this all summer.
The only downside is that the other little boy is 3 and will probably be bumped up to the next level of swimming and that will leave us by ourselves unless some other students join in the later sessions. That and the other parent is a dad and I don't feel that I can do the kind of connecting that you would do with another mom. You know what I mean?
Tomorrow our plan is to go to storytime in the morning and then do swimming in the evening. I hope Jax can sit still long enough for storytime. If so then we will be doing that weekly. I love summer!
