Renovation update

Posted Tuesday, April 29, 2008 9:04 PM

We have made some pretty good progress on the kitchen/dining room renovation.  I finished skim coating the walls, and Andrew is finishing the last bit of priming at this very moment.  We did get some color up on the rest of the walls, a really pretty bright green, kinda like green apple, but a little greyer.

I will be so happy when this is done.  All of the furniture is pushed to the center of the room and there is plaster dust all over.  Next on the list of things to do (other than save up money to do more projects..oops!) is the floor in the kitchen.  Right now we have really crappy vinyl flooring, which doesn't fit in with the hardwood we refinished in the rest of the house.  No hardwood under the vinyl though, so trying to decide what to replace it with.

Top on my list is Marmoleum or cork flooring.  Andrew is thinking tile.  We don't have any money to do it right yet, so at least this isn't a huge pressing decision.  I like the idea of doing some more eco friendly flooring that can blend a bit more with our wood floors, but Andrew thinks tile will go better with the granite tile countertops I'm leaning towards.

Anywhoo, that's the update.  It is pretty motivating to see progress, so hoping we can do the next step soon Smile That and I'd love to have my girls from the hospital come over for a BBQ, not Thanksgiving!

re: Renovation update

I know I keep looking at new houses and thinking, okay, what all projects will have to be done to make this livable.  It is overwhelming thinking about how much work would go into the homes I don't even own.  Yikes!!!

I think it's super expensive, but have you seen that rock flooring?  It's like a million little rocks that are under this layer of clear coating (so it's obviously smooth, not bumpy like rocks)...so awesome looking.  That would look so cool with hardwood flooring.

We have hardwood in our kitchen, but I love the look of large square tiles.
