Get to know your Nesties

This is unusal for me, 2 blogs in less than 24 hours, but I'm home on call today (i get $2 to stay home and wait to see if they need me at work....for 12 hours...yeah, fun), and I know a lot of you girls check blogs on your "lunch breaks"....or when you're bored, so I'm here to entertain.

I know so many of us let go of some hobbies we used to do before we got married, or procreated, and I was just curious what everyone did with their spare time before ovulation and kids took over.

Back in the day I used to spend my money on collecting antique clothing and accessories.  My Mom and I would hit the antique stores and estate sales to see if we could find some bargains, and I did find some great pieces for cheap, including some great shirtwaists from the 1880's and a 3 piece dress ensemble from the 1870's.  My Mom hit the jackpot, she has a dress from the 1820-1830's that someone took to a consignment shop!  I even had some of my senior pictures taken wearing a full out flapper outfit (yeah, I fit into some of them once upon a time!).  I still love antique clothing.  Mom and I went to Williamsburg, VA when they had their collection of colonial era clothing on display, and I even planned my honeymoon around a stop at the Museum of Costume in Bath, England.  Andrew was a real good sport about it too, only rolled his eyes a few times, and even got hot under the collar at the corset display (kinky!).

Now I can't drop a hundred bucks on an interesting piece, although ebay is totally stocked with some good stuff, pesky house payments!  So if you had anything interesting you used to spend money on or do in your free time (what's that?) it would be cool to hear about so we can get to know each other more :)

re: Get to know your Nesties

I used to do Colorguard and Winterguard in high school.  I actually went to a school where we were good.  We spun the heavy and sharper weapons.  I was moved up to spinning weapons.  Then when highschool was dwindling down and I was captain of the team, I looked into further exploring Winterguard.  I choose not to do summers because I hated being associated with a Marching band and I was mainly into the dancing aspect.  I got into an independent group that took 8th place in the world that year.  It was hot.  I had never gotten to be so free with it.  Before, we had to be so sweet and innocent because we were associated with a high school.  You better believe my first year out I was dressed in the sleeziest outfit portraying a dancing hooker (I kid you not).  I was obsessed.  The next year I was a showgirl.  I had sustained a lot of injuries and we didn't score near as well because the owner of the team accepted a lot of rookies.  So I decided, I'll get out while the majority of my medals are golden.  So I got out, gained weight because I wasn't constantly dancing and spinning   :(  Then I just became a good girlfriend and helped support Matt in his hobbies.  If my team hadn't lost that year, I was planning on going on a big tour throughout the year during my off-season, but I was breaking too many bones.  I'm 24 and I have worse arthritis than my grandmother.

Spinning weapons??  Sweet!  That's awesome you were into it at that level, but yeah, keeping bones intact is important too.

Yeah, if you want to see the kind of stuff I did, look at Blast.  I had skill level on par ( and somewhat better than, which is annoying) with their auxillary.  I spun with a few men that tried out and toured with them.  I didn't want to travel that much though.  I was tied to my man and school.

I like to read.  I'm a big fan of being at the beach, but that happens maybe once every two years.  I so wish I lived near a beach.  I love chocolate.  I'm also into watching movies.
