Keeping myself accountable

Posted Tuesday, July 08, 2008 9:35 PM

I wasn't going to blog about this, but I figure it might help to keep me accountable and on top of things.  Andrew and I (well, mainly me and he's going along with it) decided to run our first half marathon in Rochester in September, and today was my official start to hardcore training.  We have been doing 5Ks this summer, so we have a base built up, but we haven't really done the speedwork and tempo runs that would help us improve.  So putting this out there might help to keep me going and motivated.

It was super hot and humid today, so didnt get in my full workout, but what I did was quality enough.  maybe we should have picked a later half so then we wouldn't have to do the training in the middle of the summer, but I'm not that great at planning ahead like that :)

September back home will be really nice, it'll be around our 2 year anniversary, and it'll be nice to hopefully have a cooler race day.  That and the Rochester half gives out medals to finishers and I don't think the Harrisburg one does...if I'm grinding out 13.1 miles, I want a nice heavy piece of hardware to put around my neck ;)

I'm always amazed at those who train for marathons.  I would love to do that, but I wouldn't even know where to start.  Not ever being a runner myself, I think I would pass out after the first 2 minutes.  Good luck with your training and please be careful in the humidity!  Keep us updated and if you have any pointers to give to a beginner, I would love to hear them.
