Random thoughts of the day

I guess it's kinda funny...

Posted Thursday, July 10, 2008 9:54 PM

Funny "hehe", not funny "haha".  Tomorrow we are driving 6 hours to Buffalo, for a baby shower on Saturday...for the couple we know who lives one hour from us.  That's funny right?...in the totally ironic, "that's a teensy bit out of our way", sort of way.  I guess it means we really like these guys, and yes, I totally wish them and the new little one well.  However....might have been better economically speaking if I had driven an hour down the road to deliver my present...instead of six.

So anywhoo...I thought that was funny and thought I would share.  Any thoughts?  Anyone else feel the freaky sort of obligation that would take them five hours off course and $150+ in the hole for gas for something like this?  I don't mean to sound nasty, but it'll be a little shower in a church back room.  And I need the $ for our kitchen.  OK, I'll stop.  I'm a horrible person.  I love pregnant women and all sort of baby related items.  Just not the 6 hour drive...yeah, I'm sure I'm going to hell for this one... Embarrassed

I wouldn't be so hard on yourself. No one expected me to go to my SIL baby shower (second baby) because they lived 4.5 hours away so they didn't even really send me an invitation until 2 days before. Which, by the way, still really really bugs me to this day! It's perfectly natural not to want to drive 6 hours for someone who lives an hour away from you.

I agree with ermimac - the couple should appreciate your effort to be with them, because it is so far out of your way. May I ask - why are they having the shower in Buffalo when they don't live there? I hope for you that the party will be nice and worth the long drive.

You're not evil; I'd think the exact same way. (Heck, I'd be tempted to not go and just drive the gift an hour away, but I'm not that into baby showers...) I'm sure they'll appreciate the fact that you're driving so far though!

Wow- i think that is above and beyond on your guys' part. You are def good friends driving all that way ~ esp. since it will basically take up your whole wknd... I hope they appreciate it!

re: I guess it's kinda funny...

This is even worse... my bf is getting married, having her shower in 2 w/ends and we're giong to be out of town this w/end and next w/end so I don't feel like driving back to where she lives, when i was just there days before.. its a 5 hour dr. total, plus I was planning on spending a nice chunk on her - but when you think about gas its going to cost me well over 200-300 dollars just to go... not so much. still not sure what I will do. I wouldnt go if I was you, they willl understand!

Isn't she also having a local shower you could have gone to?  Oh well, you're planning on going now, so just live it up and have a good time in Buffalo.

re: I guess it's kinda funny...

Sorry, yeah the reason it's in Buffalo is that they just moved closer to us from Buffalo and all their family is there (not to mention all of Andrew's family, but that's a different issue entirely)...that and Andrew's mom is best friends with the future daddy's mom so I've been guilt tripped into it cuz I skipped the wedding shower....ugg.  Oh well, at least we can get some real hot wings this weekend!  Mmmm....wings :)
