Get to know your Nesties

Posted Friday, May 16, 2008 11:08 AM

This is unusal for me, 2 blogs in less than 24 hours, but I'm home on call today (i get $2 to stay home and wait to see if they need me at work....for 12 hours...yeah, fun), and I know a lot of you girls check blogs on your "lunch breaks"....or when you're bored, so I'm here to entertain.

I know so many of us let go of some hobbies we used to do before we got married, or procreated, and I was just curious what everyone did with their spare time before ovulation and kids took over.

Back in the day I used to spend my money on collecting antique clothing and accessories.  My Mom and I would hit the antique stores and estate sales to see if we could find some bargains, and I did find some great pieces for cheap, including some great shirtwaists from the 1880's and a 3 piece dress ensemble from the 1870's.  My Mom hit the jackpot, she has a dress from the 1820-1830's that someone took to a consignment shop!  I even had some of my senior pictures taken wearing a full out flapper outfit (yeah, I fit into some of them once upon a time!).  I still love antique clothing.  Mom and I went to Williamsburg, VA when they had their collection of colonial era clothing on display, and I even planned my honeymoon around a stop at the Museum of Costume in Bath, England.  Andrew was a real good sport about it too, only rolled his eyes a few times, and even got hot under the collar at the corset display (kinky!).

Now I can't drop a hundred bucks on an interesting piece, although ebay is totally stocked with some good stuff, pesky house payments!  So if you had anything interesting you used to spend money on or do in your free time (what's that?) it would be cool to hear about so we can get to know each other more :)

Daniel Craig is Hot!

Posted Thursday, May 15, 2008 10:03 PM

I am being very nice to Andrew today since he had his evil exam this morning.  He says he feels ok about it, but we won't know til July, so for today we had ice cream and beer, and now we are watching James Bond.  And yes, Daniel Craig is super hot in this movie.  So much hotter than Pierce Brosnan, and on par with Sean Connery I do believe.  That makes it more tolerable to watch super Man Movies :)

On another note, I think I'm actually 16 years old.  I discovered I have a wisdom tooth coming in!  I never had them come in, and the dentist didn't think they would cause me any trouble, but sure enough, what I thought was a scratch is really a tooth.  So I'm 10 years behind, I knew I would catch up eventually to everyone else!  I'm just glad I dove into that pack of BC pills Sunday, because getting preggo and needing dental work done is probably not a great combo.

On another completely different note, the house is back in workable order.  The dust is cleaned up and furniture is back in its place.  My parents are coming to visit tomorrow, and they have only seen pictures of the latest projects, so it will be nice to show it off.

And back to Daniel Craig, with those chiseled features of his....teehee :)

Countdown to Thursday

Posted Monday, May 12, 2008 10:07 PM

This is the big week!  DH is taking his actuary exam (#3 in a series of 8? I think?  I'm a terrible wife)....again...on Thursday.  It's been a total bugger of a test, and this is the fourth time he'll be taking it.  He has been working his butt off this time around trying to study on his own.  It's a lot harder than you think to study when you aren't at college, and have a full time job (for anyone who does this, huge props to you!).  One of the guys he works with has taken this exam probably 6 or 7 times, and keeps getting a score of 5, and you need a score of 6 to pass.  The last couple times Andrew has gotten just below the passing grade, and I can't think of a bigger demoralizer.

I think this time he has a little bit more of a positive outlook on it.  He had study plans in place and scheduled study time almost every day and I feel so selfish to say that I want him to pass it this time because I am sick to death of it.  Not so much the studying, but the stress.  This test was the subject of our one and only huge fight.  He's being a lot more organized this time, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is the time he passes, because it's such a pain to schedule and study for.

These tests are only offered twice a year, and then they don't even get results back out until two months after you take it.  So that's two months wasted, not studying, or knowing if you'll need to retake the test or not.  Talk about a *** move by the actuary society.  He would like to move on in the series, because you don't have to take the tests in order, but this sucker has become enough of a mental block to keep him from taking a break and doing another exam or class.

So I hope I hope I hope this is it.  Otherwise it's on to selling all our worldly posessions and moving to a hippie commune to make a living by selling soap  made from goat's milk or something.

Two Packs left

Posted Sunday, May 11, 2008 9:31 PM

Yup, two packs of birth control pills left in the drawer upstairs.  I'll have to wait and see if we chicken out last minute, and I'll be making frantic calls to the Dr.s office for more pills.  We had a luncheon the other day at work and one of my coworkers brought her baby and toddler along.  After playing "sleep" for a while, her two year old started chatting up a storm, and asked me where my babies were.  Yeah, it was pretty funny.  And yeah, this kid is the typical toddler genius, and totally gets to the hard hitting issues.  Maybe he'll be a political commentator someday.

Andrew got a kick out of it at least, and that sparked off another good conversation about babies and how super cute they are.  So we bought a cake from Coldstone (awww yeah!) for Mother's day, because I am a doggy mommy, and Andrew said that perhaps this time next year, we'll be having a real baby.  He's sweet, he was trying so hard to keep the fear from his eyes.  So we ate the yummy ice cream cake and it helped us chill and feel better.  Besides, isn't dairy supposed to help fertility?

It took me long enough...

Posted Wednesday, May 07, 2008 9:17 PM

Yeah, it's been over a year and a half since our wedding, and I was really good and put all of the snapshots people sent us into photo albums, but never put captions in.  So today, I finished captioning one of them!  It was one of the things on my long list of little unimportant things to do.

On the list of important things to do is send Mother's day stuff.  I assume it will be another trip to the old 1-800 flowers.com site and paying a lot to have something delivered two days after Mother's day.  Most holidays sneak up on me anymore.  And then, when I do think ahead and buy something, it takes an act of God to remind me to send it!  When did I become so absent minded?  Maybe I have adult ADD.  I'm definately like that with projects at home.  We'll be working on one project for a while and I'll get bored of it, and start something else, leaving two projects unfinished.  Which adds to my lists of important and not so important things to do.

At least I got one of my albums captioned...now if only we could finish Andrew's closet so we could get his laundry hamper out of the middle of my pretty bedroom :)

I'm so proud of myself

Posted Wednesday, April 30, 2008 4:20 PM

I am never one to do my laundry in a timely fashion.  Usually it ends up being forgotten in the washer and has to be washed again a week later.  Then I never take things out of the dryer, and they end up not getting folded, etc....

But today I think my Adult gene kicked in again (it's happening more and more, it's like another puberty).  I got BOTH loads washed, dried, hung up/folded, and all in about two hours!  I don't know what's happening to me.  I also got up around 7 this morning, and I hadn't even set an alarm.  Is my body trying to get me in shape for motherhood?  I also ran a load in the dishwasher!  Whoa, this is getting too weird.  So either I am becoming a responsible adult, or I'm coming down with some strange disease.

I did however watch Saved by the Bell while running on the treadmill this morning, so it must not be too serious yet :)

Renovation update

Posted Tuesday, April 29, 2008 9:04 PM

We have made some pretty good progress on the kitchen/dining room renovation.  I finished skim coating the walls, and Andrew is finishing the last bit of priming at this very moment.  We did get some color up on the rest of the walls, a really pretty bright green, kinda like green apple, but a little greyer.

I will be so happy when this is done.  All of the furniture is pushed to the center of the room and there is plaster dust all over.  Next on the list of things to do (other than save up money to do more projects..oops!) is the floor in the kitchen.  Right now we have really crappy vinyl flooring, which doesn't fit in with the hardwood we refinished in the rest of the house.  No hardwood under the vinyl though, so trying to decide what to replace it with.

Top on my list is Marmoleum or cork flooring.  Andrew is thinking tile.  We don't have any money to do it right yet, so at least this isn't a huge pressing decision.  I like the idea of doing some more eco friendly flooring that can blend a bit more with our wood floors, but Andrew thinks tile will go better with the granite tile countertops I'm leaning towards.

Anywhoo, that's the update.  It is pretty motivating to see progress, so hoping we can do the next step soon Smile That and I'd love to have my girls from the hospital come over for a BBQ, not Thanksgiving!

Friendly's

Posted Friday, April 25, 2008 11:09 PM

Ok, so Andrew and I had a pretty late dinner tonight.  We had gone shoe shopping because on my way into work today my flip-flop broke, meaning I walked through half of the hospital with one barefoot (oops!), and I had to staple it back together.  So after taking WAY too much time shopping, we went to Moe's to get some dinner, but it was 5 min after they closed, so we decided to go to Friendly's.

The one we went to is brand spanking new, and it's super nice, except that for some reason, there is a huge flat screen TV on the wall that always has ESPN on it.

Now, I don't really associate Friendly's with sports, and nothing about it screams sports bar to me.  I thought it was supposed to be a family kind of place, why do we have to have a freaking huge TV on the wall?  What's the point of having it in the center of the huge wall?  And why ESPN?  I just don't get it.  It's completely out of place.  However, their Buffalo chicken wrap was especially good tonight :)
