4th of July Weekend and My Monday Morning

Posted Monday, July 07, 2008 4:10 PM

Thursday was good, we went and got me a new phone...$70 dollars I would have rather not spent...oh well.  Friday we had Mets Phillies tickets.  We went to the game with the idea that if it started to downpour we would leave.  We both love baseball but not enough to sit in the pouring rain to see it.  I even packed towels in the car so that if we got drenched we could dry off a little in the car.  Well it did end up raining but we had an overhang that shielded us!  If we had been 1 row in front of where we were we would have been drenched!  We got a little wet but not too bad.  We were able to have our steak n' cheses and boardwalk fries.  YUM..we also got fried dough on the way out.  Saturday we went back down to Philly to get Jamie's earrings.  He got his anniversary present early..but he loves them and can't stop looking in the mirror at them.  Sunday we were supposed to go out on the boat with our neighbor but the weather was not good so I got up early and did groceries then laundry and just putted around the house.

Oh, I forgot to mention that while Jamie and I were driving home from the baseball game we got to see a whole array of fireworks...they were going off everywhere..it was very cool to see.

This morning started out fairly normal..I took Jamie to the train station came home picked the apt up, got ready for work.  I had decided that I would take Jamie's car to work as we are trying to keep the miles on the Honda down (it's a lease).  I get in the car drive it to the end of the street, go to make the right hand corner and the car dies.  This is where a whole string of 4 letter words come flying out of my mouth.  I pick up my cell (good thing we got me a new one!) and call Jamie.  As I am talking to him I keep trying to start the car finally it starts, I drop it in drive and it dies.  It does this a couple more times before I manage to get it back to the apt.  Finally I am on my way to work.

A little back story.

Jamie's car is 11 years old with a lot of miles on it.  So, I am against putting a lot of money into it.

We got the Honda back in November.  We went shopping for it the week before Thanksgiving and decided that we would pick it up on black Friday.  When we get there to pick the car up the salesman that sold it to us quit the day before.  They had no record of us coming into pick up the car, so needless to say that didn't go very smoothly but they guy that dealt with us was very nice and even said that if we decided that we needed more miles on our lease to let him know and he would make that work.

Back to today, on my lunch hour I decided to call the dealership and see what they can do for me.  They inform me that they cannot modify a contract that has already been written(even though we were told that they could) but possibly if I contact the bank that we are financed through maybe they can do something for us.  So, I call AHFC and hold, and hold, and hold.  Finally I get through to somebody only to be informed...sorry we cannot modify a contract that has already been written, but she asks me are you planning on buying the car at the end of lease and I say yes.  She said then don't worry about it..you are only responsible for millage if you turn the vehicle back into us.  Score!!!  I thanked her hung up the phone an immediatly call my father, he used to sell cars and has dealt with leases so I wanted to be sure that what this lady told me was correct and sure enough it was.  So, that was a big weight off my shoulders.  We still need to work on getting Jamie's car fixed but it's not an emergency matter anymore.  Thank goodness.

How was everyone's long weekend??

My long weekend was very unproductive, not necessarily a bad thing though. It has just been so hot here that on the weekends I can never get motivated to go anywhere or do much of anything. DH and I even took a nap every day of the long weekend!

I napped a lot too.  Funny story..I was napping in the bedroom and was half asleep when it started raining.  I yelled to DH cuz I thought water was coming into the bedroom.  He thought I was crazy...

Good news about the car.... at least that worry is off your mind.

My weekend was pretty darn good. Spent Friday grillin and chillin with the hubby, saturday a friend and I did at home pedicures to treat our summer tortured feet. Sunday we went bowling. Today I am back at work but oh well it has not been too bad at all!

Sounds like a great weekend for you!  Ours was kind of uneventful...but love having 3 days off in a row!

Glad you had a happy ending to your dilemma today!  :)

Thank goodness about the car. And yay for getting a new cell. Aaron had to buy a new one too, and it was also $70, so that must be the going rate. Hopefully it comes soon, we purchased it on Ebay. Glad to hear you had a nice weekend too!
