I have a confession to make.

Actually I have 2 confessions and they are probably flameworthy so beat me if you must.

I know next to nothing about the Presidental canidates and I don't understand everything that has been going on with Leman Brothers and AIG.

I just don't find this interesting.  I mean I hang out on the money matters board and am interested in my own finances but whenever I try and read something about the government it's like giberish (sp).

As for the Barack and McCain I have read one article in my Glamour magazine that I was able to understand but that's it.

Does anyone have any good sites that are easy to understand so that I can educate myself and have an appropriate response when these topics of conversation should arise?

Many thanks.

re: I have a confession to make.

usavote.com seems to give the most info, in the candidate's own words, of their positions. however, what candidates say and what they have done are often different. if you really have no idea of who you'd want to vote for, i would start with that -- at least it'll give you basic info.

re: I have a confession to make.

I know it's a lot of reading, but to really know what each candidate wants to do, you should just go each candidates website.  They'll probably have a summary type page, but it's really all in the details - there's really no way around it.

Also, basically Lehman Bros is a large investment type firm/bank (large and old and respected), and they got caught up in the whole 0% down real estate loans, buying them, putting stock in Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, that type of thing . . . and now that all those things have crashed, they didn't have anything of value left and had to declare bankruptcy.  AIG got caught up in the same kind of thing, insuring all kinds of projects and things without regard to risk, and because they are the number 1 insurance company in the world, the feds came in to "keep the market from collapsing".

re: I have a confession to make.

We actually have an election guide on The Knot with some really useful political sites listed - here's a link if you would like to check it out: http://wedding.theknot.com/real-weddings/brides-decide/articles/election-website-roundup.aspx

The main page with candidate bios and comparisons can be found here: http://wedding.theknot.com/real-weddings/brides-decide.aspx

Hope this helps!
