Great Green Engagement Gifts

I have to buy an engagement gift for a friend who hasn’t registered yet, so I decided to try to make it something eco-conscious (for her wedding gift I’ll go off the registry, obviously, regardless of whether her picks are eco or not!). I sent my browser to Vivaterra, a site that sells all sorts of earth-friendly home stuff, but wasn’t optimistic that I’d find anything too exciting. Often e-tailers like that peddle wares that are just a little too crunchy—more like something one of my mom’s New Age-y fiftysomething friends would be into than anything my circle of girls would crave. But right now they have some really stylish stuff in the mix. Check out these beautiful recycled-glass dishes. A set of four turquoise bowls would make a perfect gift for almost anybody, since you can never have enough bowls, and turquoise can be mixed and matched with lots of other colors so the bowls could probably work with whatever other tableware your giftee owns. The bed linens set by Plover Organic is totally of-the-moment (check out the full collection on Plover’s site—their bedding is sort of reminiscent of Dwell’s but more romantic and a touch exotic). And I think the Moroccan Wedding Cape would make an awesome engagement gift. It’s pricey, but so thematically appropriate, and used as a throw on a sofa or at the foot of a bed it would give a touch of globetrotter-chic to any newlywed abode.
