Facing the Facts

Since I’m always envious of people with naturally glowing skin, and have access to tons of the best lotions as a fashion and beauty editor, you’d think I’d too have an absolutely flawless face… Not the case. So in the midst of a quarter-life skin crisis, I began thinking it’s time to take better care of my body (and combat the wrinkle making permanent residence on my forehead) by treating myself to a mini-makeover, starting with… a facial.
Here’s my 4-Step process to gorgeous glowing skin:
Step 1: Staying hydrated
Normally my daily H20 intake is pretty pathetic (as I barely drink a mere 8 ounces). So I started keeping a huge water bottle next to my desk and refilling it as much as possible. Having it in front of my face was an obvious reminder to drink the daily dose, which is ½ your body weight in ounces. For instance: If you weigh 140 then you should drink 70 ounces of water, 150 means 75 ounces… and so on, and even more if you work out (about 4-8 oz for every 15 minutes).
Step 2: Rinse and Moisturize
I’ve always been pretty good about washing my face nightly, but I started applying a wrinkle reducing lotion. I’m addicted to La Prairie Cellular Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Spot Cream, $175, LaPrairie.com (I got a free sample, but trust me it’s worth it). If that’s too pricey another great nighttime skin treatment is Dr. Hauschka’s Rhythmic Night Conditioner, $80, Dr.Hauschka.com.
I also make sure to dab some lotion on the circles under my eyes. You can use your normal face moisturizer but I prefer to use an eye cream. One with anti-oxident ingredients (green tea extracts). I like Jo Malone Green Tea & Honey Eye Cream, $50, JoMalone.com
Step 3: And (of course) Repeat
Follow the same cycle in the morning except this time use a use a light lotion with SPF 15 (at least). For some extra color I stick with Jergens Natural Glow Face Moisturizer SPF 20, $6, Drugstore.com
Step 4: Enjoy the benefits of truly hydrated skin.
