Moving in

Or actually moving out and then moving in together. For the past 6 years, Dee's always shared an apartment with roommates. I would stay over indefinitely. The last 3 years, we were practically living together. He let me have part of the closet, and I left my toothbrush next to his. And he was so kind to not let me pay rent. I know how lucky I was. I started helping to pay for rent this year; he didn't even let me pay half because of my situation.

My parents were a bit unhappy with the idea. They accepted it though, but always wondered why we weren't at least engaged. Now that we're engaged, they're somewhat okay. I'll talk about that some other time.

So, if some of you watch reality tv shows, you know the OC is not cheap...well not the parts that are on tv anyway. The place where we live is definitely not cheap. We had decided that this area was best for us, in terms of distance to our jobs, convenience of just knowing the area, safety, etc. We tried to convince ourselve that we should go ghetto for a year (we're hoping to find a home next year), but we just couldn't do it.

I H-A-T-E HATE moving. I hate packing and unpacking, cleaning and reorganizing, etc etc etc. I hate it. And I feel so bad cuz I made this experience of us moving into our first place horrible for him. I was PMSing too, but is that really a good excuse? Rent is super expensive (i have to chip in more), and we're living in a junior 1 bedroom (523 itty bitty square feet). We're on the 3rd floor. And our new closet is the size of half my wardrobe. How are we going to share that? And we have soooo much junk that we've accumulated over the years. I'm trying to look at the positives, but I get so sad sometimes. I know I shouldn't...so here are the positives:

  • it's OUR place; no compromising for roommates or walking on egg shells so that everyone is happy. It's me and him.
  • we have a garage; no garage in the last place
  • we have a full-sized shower; we only had a shower at the last place. It was TINY!
  • and finally...drum roll please. We have a washer and dryer in our unit!

breakfast bar

breakfast bar - we need bar stools now.

breakfast bar and living room - no more hallway separating the bedroom from the living area; it's just right there

itty bitty closet - *sigh* I still don't know what to do about this.

full-sized shower

our futon couch

living room

kitchen - across the fridge is our stackable washer and dryer

kitchen counter - when will it be over??

So it's not that bad, right? Any one else not super enjoying moving in with their man??
