Met THE seamstress!

I finished final exams last week and am on winter break now! I’ve been looking forward to this all year, but now that it’s here, it seems I don’t really have a break. Now I have to put all my energy into Christmas and buying gifts, and when it comes to giving, for me, it’s a reflection of me and how much thought I put into a gift. Oh, and I have 6 more classes left to go! I’m taking four next semester and two to take in the summer, but I walk in May!

I have the hardest time with FI because over the course of our relationship, he has gone from me buying him clothes, shoes, and electronics to buying everything he wants himself…and he buys them at a deal! How do I beat that? He told me what to get him this year and how to get it at a better deal. Haha. It made my life easier. So I have his gift out of the way.

What else have I been up to? Lots…and I know it’s far too early, and there can be possible times where I can change my mind, but I couldn’t help myself. Would you?

So I met with another seamstress, Ms. Janet Brunton of Orange, CA. She happens to live very close to me. Let me tell you. I was simply blown away by this woman!

Short recap: I met with two seamstresses already, and they both gave me the same kind of vibe...they really weren't taking me seriously, and they thought I was thinking about this way too early in advance. Both ladies I had seen barely even looked at my dress, and both appointments were less than fifteen minutes.

At this point, I was pretty glad that I started looking early for a seamstress. I really wanted my seamstress to be able to take her time with my dress. It's vintage man! It will be 28 years old when I wear it on my wedding day. You F--- this up, you F--- up my dream!

Back to Janet...finding her place was not so bad; she works out of her home. She welcomed me with such warmness. She was eager to see the dress. Now, previously, we had only communicated via email, and she was great and responsive and encouraging!! We took her (my dress) out of the bag, and I could feel her excitement. She examined every seam and detail and noted some things that I didn't even notice before. She had pretty much caught everything I wanted to talk about. She made me feel so good! I looking for "that's the dress" feeling with a seamstress, and she made me feel that way. We exchanged more ideas (and she had some really great ideas!) about the dress and discussed pricing. After that, I told her I definitely wanted to work with her.

By the way, I initially heard of her via my local knot board (Orange County), and found some more reviews on her on www.projectwedding.com. I was very pleased with what everyone had to say about her.

Anyways, she said that she's very appreciative about giving her a lot of time. I don't mind...like I said, I want PERFECTION!!!

My meeting with her just totally got my creative juices flowing, and I drew some of our ideas for better visualization:

front of dress

back of dress

Some of Janet's ideas included the shape of the back and adding a train. I really can't wait!!!

I'm now on a mission to find similar fabric to the pleated skirt, and then get that fabric pleated (found a company in LA that pleats fabric: Twins Pleating Co.).
