Depressed...

...because I will not be running the Surf City, USA Half Marathon. While training, I contracted a very sharp pain on the outside of my left knee. I can't run more than half a mile without the pain brining tears to my eyes. I've been told that this is a common injury known as the IT Band Syndrome, or ITBS. A muscle in my left left leg, is rubbing against a bone causing this unbearable pain.
I'm sad because I already paid, there are no refunds, and I will not get to share my first half marathon with Dee. Instead, I'll be waiting for him at the finish line. =****( I was in denial for about a week, and I thought my body would be able to recover, but when I was at the gym on Tuesday trying to run a mile on the treadmill, I found myself having to stop because the pain was too much for me to "ride it". I found some friends who are interested in running in my place. *sigh* I'm still sad when I think about it.
I'm trying to figure out now what I can do instead of running to fulfill my cardio needs. I do spinning every Friday; I might have to up that frequency to more than once a week. I was also thinking swimming, but I hate chlorine...I'll have to find a way around that. For now, I'm still going to the gym, walking on the tread, and working on toning. I hope this doesn't set me back at all.
Anyone come across an injury preventing you from a goal? Anyone have any other suggestions on other cardio options?
